2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 dEnk (1838) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - MAY 6, 2010
Hazel brown, small head. Aroma of faint fruit, alcohol and malt.
Flavour is very malty and alcoholic, faint bitterness.
Too strong, no flavour. Uninteresting.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 Vaiz (2034) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - APR 27, 2010
Bottle at home. Clear golden pour, thin creamy white head that laces. Aroma of alcohol, loads of malt, cider, sugar, chemicals and dust. Flavor is very malty and sugary sweet with quite some sourness in the finish. Lots of alcohol present as well. Quite horrible.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 JCB (3100) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - APR 18, 2010
Thanks to durhambeer for sharing this one. When meads go bad? I dunno, there certainly was a honied quality to this one, but maybe that’s just because of how horridly sweet and one-dimensional it was. Still golden pour, almost sullen if that makes any sense, like a brooding Loki failing to understand why so few appreciate his charms. But there just aren’t that many charms.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 durhambeer (2096) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - APR 16, 2010
UPDATED: DEC 7, 2011 I knew this was trouble when it poured clear gold. As if the big 13% on the label shouldn’t have put me off. Nose is sugar, honey, wheat, varnish. Tastes the same but with extra alcohol and harshness. Booo...
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 emacgee (3000) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - APR 12, 2010
Durhambeer brought this one out. Pours straw gold with a one finger frothy sandstone head. Nose is sweet, bready, some hay, mild age/skunk, alcohol. Flavor is sharp and sweet, alcohol for sure, wet hay, bready malt. Palate is sharp and alcoholic.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 brigg (416) - Washington DC, USA - APR 10, 2010
(bottle) A sparkling orange-amber beer with a small, creamy off-white head. A sweet and peppery aroma with notes of alcohol and malt, some ripe fruit. Flavor is very sweet but the strong alcohol balances it out for the most part (maybe a tad too sweet); some fruit (apple, and pear). Despite the strong alcohol it smooth to drink with a nice warming effect. Light to medium body with soft carbonation.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 dtborelli (322) - Sacramento, California, USA - APR 7, 2010
Belzebuth
Pours honey colored with a medium white head. Lots of lacing on the glass. Nice aroma of Belgian yeast, grapes, alcohol, and a malty sweetness. Some weird keg beer aroma in it. Flavor is light and does not show the alcohol as much as one would expect. Some honey and slight grape flavor with a mild yeast character. Slight warming finish. Better than I expected and nice crisp mouthfeel. Better than the rating suggests.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 hoppopotamus (256) - Santa Cruz, California, USA - APR 5, 2010
A slightly hazy golden beer with a big white head that leaves some lace. Aroma is understated - a bit bready and yeasty, some belgian spiciness. Flavor is quite good - sweet caramel malt, syrupy sweetness, some light fruit notes, not a hint of the alcohol heat. Mouthfeel is syrupy, at the same time fairly effervescent.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 horto008 (117) - Alabama, USA - APR 3, 2010
Not bad but not a beer I’d regularly drink. It is very, read too, sweet and brandy-ish with an alcohol note that slaps you in the face. Of course, don’t know what you expect with a beer that obviously wants you to know that it will get you drunk (the 13 on the label in giant letters). The aroma isn’t bad and the palate is full and smooth.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Brandman (1067) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAR 30, 2010
300 ml bottle. Golden colour, very small white head. Very malty aroma, some alcohol, some winy notes. Mouthfeel is very full and oily. Rich malty flavour with floral hops. Sweet white wine and alcohol in taste.
