3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 beerguy101 (4921) - Newark, California, USA - JAN 18, 2003
15% alcohol version--- Orange gold color, small head. Aroma is malt and alcohol. Very interesting. Malty and complex flavors. Alcohol bite/flavor is VERY evident. There are a lot of different flavors going on here. Oranges, wood, smoke and cinnamon and some other spiciness. This stuff reminds me more of a liqueur like Grand Marnier or a scotch or Burbon than beer. Despite the high alcohol content, which is always present, it fairly smooth. It also mellows as it warms to room temperature. Would age very well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is smooth. Aftertaste is a sharp alcohol oilyness.

250 ml bottle with 13% on the label, 28 07 08 date stamp. Slightly hazy, orange-gold beer with a small but persistent head. Pleasant estery bubblegum, honey, and grain aroma. Flavor is sweet apples, grape, and dry grain with a slight alcohol finish that gets stronger as you go. Juicy Fruit chewing gum aftertaste. Chest-warming alcohol is fairly well-masked for 13%. Mostly smooth, medium body has a little tingle and finishes dry. Average-tasting Belgian, but a nice winter warmer that shouldn’t be given in more than 250 cc doses.

Bottle @ Michael’s Genuine. Pours dark gold and clear with small tight white head. Fresh grain aromas are clean and belie the strength. Hints of honey and unroasted nuts. Nice level of carbonation and a smooth palate. Sweet and strong, almost hot but more of a fresh, baguetty flavor that is welcoming. I liked it!

This is a super knockout punch! Very stong maltiness aroma. Appearance is a dark amber. Intense flavor, very malty. It could be considered a bit bitter, otherwise a brilliant strong ale.

Bottle at the International beer bar in Barcelona. Yeast-driven beer. Aromas of butter, with hints of caramel, and also band-aid. Taste starts sweet and sour, with bitterness taking over for a long finish. Palate is creamy, and full bodied. Dark yellow, with a frothy head.
