COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Ben Middlemiss Benediction ale made its first U.S. appearance in 2000 at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in Philadelphia as part of Michael Jackson’s "10 Most Exciting Beers of the Millennium." We know of no other New Zealand beer that receives the same amount of care and attention, and we are proud to re-introduce Benediction to the United States. This classic ale will develop for 4-5 years if kept under ideal cellar conditions."

Tart citrus and caramel aroma. Orange-tan color. Sweetish sour and tart-bitter flavor, more like a tripel than a double. Thinner and dry as well. Not the world’s best, okay Belgian style.

2010 bottle. Pours hazy dirty copper with a tight sudsy white head that dissipates to a soapy spotty film and sudsy collar. Aroma is sweet caramel some yeast, but the earthy bitter hops really show. Taste is bitter with a strange funk and tart sweetness along with some spearmint and clove. Really odd tasting I can’t tell if this is on purpose or infected. Palate is thin fizzy and drying.

Backlog of ratings. Thanks to someone at one of bu11zeye’s tastings. The look is cloudy, an off white head, and orange in color. The smell is yeast, fruits, alcohol, and ok. The taste is dried fruits, yeast, and alcohol.

Cloudy dark amber beer, little white head. Woody sourness and light mild chocolate on the nose. Light dry palate. Dry sour malt. Tart orange and a little lemon and coca cola. Dry spice and a trace of mild chocolate. Subtle butterscotch. Finishes very dry. Not bad but way over dry.

An 11.2 ounce bottle, dated 2010. Pours a cloudy dark orange with thin white head. Aroma of fruits and sugars. Taste is a little flat. Otherwise, this Belgian is fairly typical, alcohol is there in the background. Dark fermented fruits and candied sugars. Moderate thumbs up.

Has some sweet notes that come through in the nose and taste of this one. Pours cloudy and amber with a minimal head. A nice Belgian...

330ml bottle pours a hazy orange amber color with a huge white head that retains well and leaves some nice thick lacing on the glass. Aroma is very fruity with some caramel, hops and hints of yeast. Taste is light fruits (apple and grapes) with some malty sweetness and a mild hop bitterness. There is a nice warming from the alcohol and there is plenty of carbonation and a medium to full body to appease the palate. The ABV on this one would lend me to think that this is a tripel and not a dubbel. A very interesting brew that is definitely worth trying at least once.

Small bottle poured into a perfect pint glass. This is opaque and tea colored. Very little head. The aroma is very fruity and resembles a wine cooler. If this is an abbey dubbel it is infected. First taste is wild funk. Some fruot but there is nothing like a dubbel here. Infected.
