COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Ben Middlemiss Benediction ale made its first U.S. appearance in 2000 at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in Philadelphia as part of Michael Jackson’s "10 Most Exciting Beers of the Millennium." We know of no other New Zealand beer that receives the same amount of care and attention, and we are proud to re-introduce Benediction to the United States. This classic ale will develop for 4-5 years if kept under ideal cellar conditions."

Bottle at Seattle International Beer Fest. Pours golden amber with an offwhite head and clings. Aromas of candy sugar, citrus and fruit. Slight bitter linger, candy sugar, some anise in the taste.

Has some sweet notes that come through in the nose and taste of this one. Pours cloudy and amber with a minimal head. A nice Belgian...

330ml bottle pours a hazy orange amber color with a huge white head that retains well and leaves some nice thick lacing on the glass. Aroma is very fruity with some caramel, hops and hints of yeast. Taste is light fruits (apple and grapes) with some malty sweetness and a mild hop bitterness. There is a nice warming from the alcohol and there is plenty of carbonation and a medium to full body to appease the palate. The ABV on this one would lend me to think that this is a tripel and not a dubbel. A very interesting brew that is definitely worth trying at least once.

Strykzone (3132) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JAN 27, 2012
Small bottle poured into a perfect pint glass. This is opaque and tea colored. Very little head. The aroma is very fruity and resembles a wine cooler. If this is an abbey dubbel it is infected. First taste is wild funk. Some fruot but there is nothing like a dubbel here. Infected.

Bottle (twist top). Pours as one of the palest dubbel’s that I have ever seen (probably 10 or so SRM) golden hue with a lasting, thick, off-white head. Good lace. Strongly estery and fruity aroma. Runs the gamut from raspberries to bright and ripe apple. A bit of brandy and orange curacao. Nice and full bready to biscuity, baked goods malt quality with a small hint of caramel. A bit of a floral quality. A bit raisinated. Flavors are a bit heavy on a toffee, marmalade, caramelized character. A bit of curacao. A hint of tartness towards the finish. Falls a bit flat flavor wise. Seltzer. Very fruity, raisins, a bit of green apple, artificial grape. Malt richness seems to be left behind a bit. Finishes very dry. Lively carbonation, some warmth and perky fusel alcohol notes. A different take, interesting.

Bottle. Pours dark brown. White head. Nose and taste of orange peel, water taffy, funk, raisin and caramel. Slight sour lactose finish. Medium body.

11.2 oz bottle. Label says bottled in 2010. Pours a hazy dark orange with a medium dissipating beige head. Smells of overripe dark fruit, raisins, funk, caramel. Taste is sweet and sour with a little bitter dryness sneaking in in the finish. Tastes a little off. It’s drinkable, just a little weird.

Bottle. Not one of the better dubbels I have tried. Something was missing and I could not put my finger on it. Ok, head and amberish color. Didn’t like the taste that much. Way to bitter for a dubbel. Could have been better.

11.2 oz black foiled twist off bottle. 2010 vintage. Ir pours a clear amber at first, but I swirled the yeast and poured it in and it became a bit murkier. The head is big, fluffy, and of white and leaves a ton of lacing. The smell has elements of clove, caramel, bubblegum, and fruitiness. It is an oddball in the category. The flavor is tangy with an odd flavor that is hard to pinpoint, maybe passionfruit. Lots of rotten tropical fruit flavors along with bubblegum. It is a pretty goofy beer.

330 ml. bottle. Vintage 2010. Pours a medium light beige head, over a cloudy, amber (SRM 12) body.....nose is sweet malts with toffee/caramel, apple, bit of grape, cellar mustiness....taste is barnyard funk, fruit flavors (apple, pear) with a bit of sourness, finishing lightly bitter...mouth feel is medium, carbonation adds a creamy texture. This is not a typical Abbey Dubble. It has many layers of aroma and flavor. Some characteristics are reminiscent of a Belgian Strong with fruitiness dominating the malt back bone, others are more like Sour Ales or Flanders Reds perhaps even a Gueuze. An interesting beer all around. BJCP 8/3/14/4/7
