COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Special - Wetherspoon Autumn Festival 2011
"Owing to Hurricane Irene, Tonya was stranded at the airport and unable to fly over to brew for us. Despite this, Tonya was able to assist in brewing her beer from the other side of the world. This dark ale has a citrus-pine-like aroma, tempered by sweet malts and hints of roastiness. There’s a balance between hoppy bitterness and roasted chocolate, in the flavour, and a finish which is long and brimming with hops"
Hops: Cascade

Hand pulled cask at the Moon Under Water (JDW) Watford. Dark ruby/brown with a beige head. Good fresh cascade hops complement a lightly roasted malt back bone with ample body for the style. Considering that the brewer couldn’t make it over from the States to supervise this beer, I think that Everards have done a cracking job here.

JDW 2011 Autumn Festival. Tunbridge Wells, with Dan after the Crowborough 10. The high citric notes sit well on the roasty base, producing an attractive but underwhelming beer.

Has a good balance and blend of hops as well as roasted flavours in the taste.

Crosse Keys Spoons. Clear dark brown beer. Residual off white head. Light semi dry palate. Mild carbonation. Light piney hops - very mild. Similarly mild dark fruits and a light touch of dark malt. Okay but was hoping for a lot more than this.

Cask at The Larry talking womble shit with Octo. Seems a long, long time ago now. Mahogany with ruby glints and a fine cream top. Lemon cake, red apple and melon over toasty malt aroma. Soft milk choc digestive base over-layered with delicate citrus and floweriness. Some good nutty, chaffy malt. Biscuit linger. Very pleasant.

Skegness red lion. Aroma is the best thing about this beer. Like bonfire toffee. Initial hit on taste is citrus then blends to burnt bitterness. Hints of aniseed. Overall an interesting idea worth persuing.

Cask at the Webb Ellis (JDW), Twickenham. Mahogany with a lacy head and faintly tart toffee and citrus aroma. Clean and citrus hoppy flavours balance toffee, oak and a touch of chocolate, with just a touch of tartness. Drying and bitter Cascade finish. A super job by Tonya.

[Cask at the Monk’s Retreat, Reading] Brown with a moderate beige head and a slight fizz. Nice frothy mouthfeel and a good fresh hoppy smell. Taste of chocolate and roasted malt at first before the hops kick in, with a strong and lasting (and repeating on you later) green leaf and pine flavour. It seemed unbalanced to me – the hops did not go with the malt, and despite being full of flavour it didn’t do it for me.

Dark brown with nose full of cascade, bodes well for taste. Good body with chocolate and roast barley and plenty of sweet lemon balanced by hop bitterness. V drinkable, great condition.

Cask in The Metropolitan, JDW Fest 2011. Colour is ruby red dark brown bitter colour. Nose is subtle. Touch is roasted grain, light berry hops, maybe bit of caramel. Taste is very distinctive. Smoked wood, barbecued meat and roasted bitterness. Interesting and nice, although not much in the finish other than roasted bitterness.
