COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Is a full, malty beer. The warming sensation of alcohol is evident, and sherry-like flavors are often present.

Amber-brown and slightly hazy. Rewarding mouthfeel. Very sweet base, with a lot of roasted, toasted and burnt flavors. Hints of chocolate and coffee here and there, too. Big, aromatic hops. Finished dry and clean with some lingering bitterness. Good beer.

Had this one from the tap and growler. Maroon/amber body with a fairly thick head. Malty flavor with lots of on the darkish side of caramel flavors. Maybe overdone cotton candy. Good stuff anyhow. Travels well too.

On Tap at the brewpub. Deep redish brown with a fairly full off white creamy head. Rich woody aromas and flavor. Moderately heavy feel and a slightly bitter finish. Tasty

On tap @ belmont station. i smell vodka, malt syrup. resin. cloudy deep red body w/ quickly fading but lacing head. flavors of dark caramel, plywood (in a good way), a thin honorable bitterness, almost balancing the deep, slightly dusky, malt.

Draft at the Brewpub: Brownish copper pour with a large beige head and nice lacing. Nose is malty and earthy, some sweetness as well. The taste is rich with maltiness, caramel, light bitters, and rye. Even a little smoky. Thought this was one of the pub’s better ales.

Draught at the brewpub. Brown with a small head. Aroma has caramel, lightly fruity yeast and light roasted malt. Rich, earthy, sweet flavor with toasty coffee touches. Medium bodied and smooth

This beer is my main reason for going into Bend. Color a pale brown. Good head. Malty with a hop bite as well. Enough alcohol so my wife has to drive home but not enough to justify calling the cops. Try this with a berger and fries or with their other excellent food. A damn good reason to live in central Oregon.

Big and toffeeish. Respectable example of the style. Disclaimer: it was really hot out when I tried this, and it would likely taste better if it wasn’t the middle of summer. But then I wasn’t the genius who decided to bring it to the OBF, either.

(Draft: Bend Brewing Company in Bend, OR) Though called an old ale, this is NOT an old ale in the usual sense. While it is very flavorful, it’s more just a big amber ale, sweet, very fruity, caramely, malty and gently roasty, and moderately bitter. Sweet and caramely nose seems to match well with the flavor. Medium body, but sweet and malty enough for a long, substantial mouthfeel. The color is dark amber, and it’s topped by a small, light tan head that fades to a small rim and leaves a bit of patchy lacing. I feel mislead with the beer name, but once over the duping, this is actually a pretty nice beer.
