3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 SlovakSniper (2115) - Candiac, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 4, 2012
(Anniversaire 2012.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 JoeMcPhee (7622) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 30, 2011
2011 version. Pale golden pour. Fresh zesty hop nose. Fresh orange peel, grapefruit and pine. Sticky and resinous with a light pale malt aroma on the back along with some stone fruit flavour. Fairly tropical but it has a soft palate. Sticky hop resin helps cut some of the sweetness. The hops are intense but the bitterness is restrained. Delicious.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 MJGG (852) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 1, 2011

Tap at brewpub. Tropical fruit and resinous hoppiness, as I prefer those DIPA hopbombs; probably amarillo... A slightly sweet malty body balances everything out pretty well. Very good, one of the good DIPA offered in Québec’s imaginary country; comparable to Bells Hopslam.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 HogTownHarry (5638) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - OCT 19, 2009
Draught. Mondiale 2009 - day 2 - at Benelux brewpub. Hazy deep amber with a large creamy-fluffy off-white head. Dry, pungent grapefruit pith and cat pee (in the good way) aroma - a solid citrus/citrus zest zing underpinning it, just enough light grain to provide some balance. The taste follows, just as solidly hoppy as the nose promised, but with more malt character, better balance in the flavour than in the aroma - super, actually, I toyed with going 9/10 on this one. Quite a thick body to it, with acidity from the hops and a sticky malt mouthfeel - pretty long-finishing too, and it didn’t taste close to 9% - lovely: thick and catty, I could drink it for days.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 blankboy (5151) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 5, 2009
Draught at Benelux, Montréal, QC. 2009 version. Pours a clear deep ruby with an average size off-white head. Aroma’s quite malty -- lots of caramel malt -- along with some buttery toffee, fruit, resiny hops and some alcohol. Flavour of caramel malt, resiny hops, some alcohol and fruit and a bitter finish. Medium bodied. I expected to be blown away by a IIPA from Benelux but I wasn’t, but this is still a solid beer and I liked it.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 TheJester (1460) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 23, 2009
On tap at the Brasserie. Ruby brown, with only a ring of head. Some resinous hops in the aroma; also caramel and alcohol. A decent malt backbone tries in vain to balance the huge amount of bittering hops in this brew. Not that it’s a bad thing. Oddly, this seems better balanced than their regular IPA (Cuda). Medium to low carbonation. Alcohol warms on the way down. Surprisingly smooth.
