Glouglouburp (2114), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 28, 2006 Dark brown body topped by a medium beige head leaving great lacing on the glass. At first the aroma was nutty and earthy hops but as it warmed up it became more and more coniferous. A very nice roasted malts flavour, nutty with soft creamy non-bitter chocolate and only a little touch of caramel. Creamy body without being very sweet. Lots of coniferous/citrusy hops that are very dry and woody giving the beer a herbal and slightly spicy edge. Highly hopped but only mildly bitter. Might just be one of the best American Brown Ale I’ve had from a brewpub.
A Quebec brewpub showing what a good American Brown Ale should be, great, finally a non-strippers related reason for them to come to Quebec.
WeeHeavySD (2031), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Oct 24, 2007 On Tap @ the Brew Pub shared wtih Glouglouburp. Pours a dark brown amber with an off white ring head. The nose is malty sweet and pretty full. The taste is full bodied sweet, and malty, has a nice bit of bitterness and a lingering nuttiness, nice, very nice for the style. tiggmtl (4178), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jul 3, 2007 Very fresh, strong hops in the nose - herbal, grassy and citrus in character, blended well with sweet and dark malts. Nicely balanced. Almost opaque brown body is topped by a decent cover of lasting tan head that leaves some light lacing. Assertive bitterness show cases both the hops and dark malts. Chocolaty supporting malt base. Very dry medium body is well attenuated with prickly, strong carbonation that awakens the taste buds. Sampled on tap at the brewpub in Fall 2006. CapFlu (3353), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Aug 23, 2008 (Draught) Sampled at the Brewpub. Pours a thin, white web of white foam abd flavour of heavy malt. Flavour is tart for a brown, high hop profile, but iteresting. Rastacouere (5418), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 25, 2007 A dark chestnut ale with a gentle haze. Healthy off-white head tops it despite the generally low effervescence. Immediately nutty upon hitting the nostrils and well contained at that. Limited roastiness leave more room for toasted malts. It is quite straightforward in maltiness, but compensates this apparent simplicity with a solid hop backing, citrusy, leafy and foresty, making it feel drier than initially and satisfyingly complete.
