Cask Days 2009 @ Bar Volo, Toronto, ON: Poured opaque, deep brown with a small white head. Aroma is fresh hops, brown sugar, caramel malts. Very sweet but hoppy, brown sugar and citrus hops, grass, nice all around.

On tap at the brewpub. Dark chestnut color with a thin foamy off-white head. Average retention. Aroma is roasted hazelnuts, toasted malt, hops and a hint of wood. Flavor is toasted malt, hazelnuts, roasted malt and brown sugar with agressive hopping for a brown ale. Bitter finish.

[on tap at brewpub] Weak aroma of toasty malt and pine. Almost clear, ruddy chestnut appearance with an off-white ring. Sweet, chocolate and toasty malt overshadowed by potent, bitter pine hops, which throw this brew off balance. Light to medium body, moderate carbonation, lingering bitter grapefruit finish.

On cask at Volo Cask days: Appearance: Cherry red, small bubbly white head. Aroma: Cherry, malt, wood - quite subtle, raspberries and just a lovely hoppiness about it. Flavour: Bitter hops, super bitter, mouthwatering in fact, bitter mango skins, with a nice long bitter finish. Delicious.

On tap at the brewpub. This was the surprise of the night. A lively brown/amber pour with tons of body and a moderate creamy head. Big nose of soft citrus, mild yeast, and huge grassy hops. Much like an India Brown Ale with some "exotic" additions. Mouthfeel was abundant and quite wonderful, a really complex and drinkable treat that we revisited with enthusiasm.

Volo Cask Days 2009. This was some great stuff. Lots of hops in the aroma, super sweet, tart hops, tangerine, and mandarin aromas. Some sweet malts, brown sugar, and more hops in the finish. Super easy drinking, and an amazing beer.

2009-10-31. Hazy dark brown body with a tiny bubbly head. 3+ Interesting aroma, fruity citrus, grapefruit, orange. 7+ Flavour has citrus up front, and a nice brown ale under layer that is secondary but very pleasant and works surprisingly well with the citrus overtones. 7+ Smooth average plus body has a pleasant light carbonation. This was very good. Cask at Volo Cask Days 2009
