LadySusan (386), Ste-Therese, Quebec, Canada Apr 5, 2008 On tap at Benelux. The color is a hazy amber with a light beige head. The aroma is of spicies. The taste is also of spicies and of sweet fruits . It has a dry and bitter taste that is very pleasant.
Rastacouere (5421), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jan 31, 2008 A weird beast this beer and one that did not strike the right chord to me. A dark amber beer whose off-white head slowly, but completely departs. Spicy and yeasty nose. What made it original for a Christmas offering must have been the dryness. The Saison yeast has eaten pretty much every trace of sugar in there. While not overly bitter, this was very, very dry to the point where the overbearing astringency only felt natural. We can still taste some port nuances and obviously the cranberries, but there is no juiciness involved. The body is also quite light, yet very carbonated. Pepper and cinnamon notes. Really sharp palate, slicing dryness just clashes with the fruity notes to me. Glouglouburp (2157), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 22, 2008 In short: Spicy cranberry beer. Well put-together but one pint is enough.
How: Tap at brewpub. Freshly put on tap.
The look: Dark copper body with a little off-white ring of foam.
In long: Rather spicy on the nose with what appears to be a duo of coriander and cinnamon. Taste is dominated by cranberries and the aforementioned spices. Herbal finish. The “beer” part of this spicy fruity drink just didn’t come out enough for my taste. Kind of fun the first few sips but gets tiresome before the end of a pint and I didn’t want a second one. On the positive side beers like that help to keep my drinking under control, because as we all know alcohol consumption is one of the biggest cause of statistics.
