12 oz glass at the brewpub. Nitro looking stout, pitch black with a cm of cream on top. Very fruity aroma: lots of cherries and even pineapples/tropical fruit. Lots of sweet chocolate as well, hints of vanilla and spice with a faint hop presence. Taste is quite sweet, no alcohol, very fruity, more vanilla here than in the aroma. Palate is mostly flat, very silky and smooth with no alcohol presence. An imperial stout to drink daily.

Sampled at Winter Warmer Montreal 2011. Pitch black with an average mocha head with good retention. Aroma is Chocolate, toffee, fruity notes (candied fruits) and alcohol. Flavor is coffee, chocolate, alcohol, candied fruits and a bitter finish.

Tap. Pours mostly deepish brown almost black with ruby highlights and a thin creamy lasting head. Aroma is big nutty roasty chocolate, earth, leather, some light fruitiness, decent subtle coffee and light pine-hops. Flavor is grassy, big dark chocolate light burnt notes, fruits, coffee and medium american hops- pine light citrus in the end. Ok.

On tap at brewpub. Didn’t seem like 9% ABV. A little watery but not as coffeish as other imperial stoiut I had. Bittterness not that obvious, though, Interesting but nothing amazing.

Pitch black color, with a creamy tan-colored head, leaving laces, light yeasty, roasty, fruity nose, with some dark bitter chocolate accents, and some floral hop leafy, coniferous, kind of apricot and peach aromas follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, fruity, sweet roasty malt character with a nice flowery hop grassy, leafy accent, still has a fruity side of apricot and peach, it could be the same yeast stein used for the ergot, with a roasted coffee bean bitterness, leading towards a fruity, roasty hop bittering finish.

A Serviceable RIS, however there are so many good and great ones out there. Roast, medium mouthfeel. Black with mocha head. Strong roast aroma.

App.: Extremely dasrk brown poor, no head, looks fad...

Aromas: Humidity, chocolate, black cherries, hints of coffee (moka)... carrots?

Palate: Full bodied, flat, harsh bitter start that slowly fades... good sweetness

Flavors: Toast, burnt caramel, molasses

Notes: Not a classic impy... closer to a belgian style imperial stout... dissapointing

This brewer seems most at home with belgian styles, so this was a little weak, but still pretty tasty - dark ruby, nearly black beer - a very roasty IS, with strong coffee bitterness and some heavy notes of tobacco - alcohol is warming, but not overpowering - there is an almost berry-like fruitiness near the finish, but the for the most part the beer is heavy on the coffee and bitter chocolate - pretty nice.
