A hazed reddish brown ale with a thin brown head. In aroma, a beautiful woody caramel malt with treacle, vinous notes, bourbon, very nice, alcohol warmth. In mouth, a nice licorice malt with bourbon barrel, grassy hops, loads of warming alcohol, as usual, beautiful. On tap at Cactus, Dec 21 2012.

Bouteille de 341 ml achetée chez La Barik (Trois-Rivières, QC). Arôme: Odeur de caramel avec une pointe de bourbon. Apparence: La couleur est brune foncée. Présence d’un mince col mousseux et d’une fine dentelle sur le verre. Saveur: Goût de bourbon et de caramel avec une pointe boisée. Longue durée de l’arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture légèrement onctueuse. Moyenne effervescence en bouche. Présence de bourbon en arrière goût. (Rating #4769)

Bouteille 341ml. De couleur brune foncée et légèrement voilée. Nez de caramel, moyen de fruits sucrés (petits fruits foncés), d’alcool boisé et liquoreux (fût de whisky) et de vanille, avec de faibles notes de malt fumé et de houblon herbeux. Moyenne-ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen-doux et une texture moyennement liquoreuse. Moyen goût fruité (petits fruits foncés confits, notes de prunes) accompagné d’un goût de vanille et de faibles notes fumées lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute rapidement un goût de caramel aux petites notes rôties avec des traces de mélasse sucrée. Parallèlement, l’on retrouve un moyen goût d’alcool liquoreux, boisé et réchauffant (fût de whisky) jusqu’en finale où s’y rajoute également une légère amertume de houblon herbeux. Post-goût long, légèrement amer d’alcool liquoreux et boisé (fût de whisky) avec un léger goût fruité (moût de petits fruits) et de houblon herbeux ainsi que des traces rôties.

App.: Deep mahogany with a thin tan head. Aroma: Richly fruity and burnt with some infection tang, burnt sugar, brown sugar, strawberry jam, more infection, unfortunate. Palate: Medium+ body with moderate effervescence. Flav.: Lots of big malts marred by infection, quite jammy and fruity, brown sugar, more infection; somewhat sweet with decent bitterness, light astringency and tang.

Bad bottle. Too bad.

pours almost clear brown, red tint, with a small beige head, little retention and lacing. bourbon, a lot. some nutty malts, brown sugar, some sweetness - not cloying this time (as opposed to previous versions), some coconut, tingling spices, very hint of oxidation. average carbonation, light body - weak, medium long relatively dry grassy-citrusy finish. warming alcohol. less bourbon and booze (from previous versions) gives place to the beer to express itself, although their double brown ale seems to be lacking a bit in the body and in roastiness - but maybe it’s all because of the big bourbon in there. would like to try the non-barrelled version.

Bottle (341 ml). Tasted side by side with last year batch. Reddish brown with a low beige head. Aroma is of bourbon, vanilla, malt, toffee, caramel and slight dark fruits. Quite boozy. Taste is moderately sweet with bourbon, vanilla, malt, toffee, caramel and dark fruits. Mouthfeel is somewhat oily. Medium body. Less complex than previous batch. Maybe it will become better with some age but right now it’s an average bourbon barrel beer with a strong bourbon presence. I think that this beer should be merge with the previous batch in RB database.

Bottle 341ml. Pours deep red/brown with low beige head. Aroma is of bourbon toffee, malt, alcohol, vanilla. Taste is of bourbon, alcohol, caramel, toffee, some bitterness, vanilla. Palate: Medium body, near-dry finish. Overall: Pretty good, interesting beer. Not too cloying sugar-wise or anything. The bourbon takes alot of place (more than what I recall of previous version), but it does’nt bother me too much. Looking forward to see this age a bit more. I prefer the other batch.

On tap at Cactus. A clear, dark brown ale with ruby red tints and a nice beige head. Smell is caramel, wood, jack daniels. Taste is vanilla, chocolate, smoke, molasses, caramel. Finish is smokey, subtly bitter, oak, vanilla. Light body. Weak to medium carbonation. Very tasty beer, great for celebrating a rare occasion.

Brune aux reflets rouges, coiffée d’une mousse se résorbant rapidement en un mince voile. Odeurs de raisins secs et d’alcool assez évidentes. Des effluves de caramel et de bois s’ensuivent. Le goût peut paraître déficient par rapport aux arômes. C’est suret, acidulé, alors que l’alcool est boiteux. Parfois il cogne fort, tandis qu’à d’autres moments il semble s’évacher. Les saveurs de bourbon semble provenir d’une sorte/marque "ordinaire". Je m’attendais à une plus forte corpulence de cette grande armada. (500-010113)
