MartinT (4497), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 2, 2008 My Bottom Line:
Honeyed biscuity malts minutiously move towards a herbal hop finale in this soft and round Heller Bock.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the hazy honeyed gold.
-I get the impression that the filtered version of this was brighter and thus more impressive. I hope to get to try this one soon.
-The maltiness presents lots of cereal flavors.
-The overall result is drinkable, but maybe not crisp and hoppy enough for my personal tastes in Heller Bock.
On tap at the brewpub; keg-conditioned version. Rastacouere (5421), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jan 31, 2008 Clear, bright golden pour. Lasting frothy, but small head. Vibrant aroma: an ode to honeyed social tea biscuits. Extremely clean malts. Combining the miracle of freshness and maturity. Soft all along, basically rolling on the tongue as an expanding foam. Its initially rather intense carbonation fades surprisingly quick, letting the palate become a delicate cream - thick enough to enhance the honey nuances. Appealing, confident and rather intense hop presence quickly dries out the taste development. Refreshing nuances of lemon, herbs and spices are directly derived from it, so is a growing bitterness that never bothers. An unadulterated pleasure. Glouglouburp (2157), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 22, 2008 In short: Full bodied and surprisingly hoppy lager. Juicy yet dry. Original and very good.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: clear dark golden body topped by a white ring of foam
In long: Quite an unusual beast we’ve got here. A bit fruity (mainly orange and citrus) on the nose. The fluffy/spongy body conceals quite a bit of biscuit malts mixed in with citrus/orange flavours. Taste of graham cookies dipped in citrus juice. A little spicy and herbal too. Generously hopped with a hop profile that is hard to describe. Felt juicy (citrus) and dry grassy at the same time. Quite of bit of hop in this one. Finish is very dry, almost too much so. Really not what I’m used to in a Helles Bock but I don’t care this was very good. Other reviewers may experience something different because the brewer said this was an “advanced” release and the beer will be re-release after lagering some more. Might be different then and more typical Helles Bock but I doubt it will taste better. I’m glad I was able to taste this beer very young. The beer, not me… unfortunately.
