On tap @ Benelux (Montréal). Dark copper/brown with a medium light beige head and good lacing. Aroma of raisins, caramel, cereals and roasted malt. Taste is lightly sweet and about the same as aroma. Light to medium body. Soft to medium carbonation. Good Schwarzbier!

UPDATED: JUN 1, 2013 A dark brown schwarze with a thin mocha head. In aroma, light chocolate malt with mineral notes, OK. In mouth, a sweet nutty malt with mineral character. Ok. On tap at Mondiale 2013, May 31 2013.

Described as black pilsner, this one has the aroma of coffee and cigars. Near black as expected. More bitter than the usual schwarz, this gives the malt element the roasty metallic edge associated with hoppy dark ales. The most unique beer I sampled that day.

UPDATED: OCT 24, 2013 In short: A grassy-hoppy and chocolaty black lager. Good beer
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Mahogany body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose is a pleasant mix of dried grass, chocolate chips cookies, burnt raisin pie and undertones of lime. In mouth the body is full, the carbonation is very active and tickling. Taste is chocolaty cake malts, toasted crusty baguette, croutons, raisins, a slice of fruit cake, a generous hopping. The beer is seriously hoppy, sundried yellowed grass, lime-like citrusy edges. Bitterness and dryness are nose to nose in the finish. A ’black pils’ that is just about as drinkable as most hoppy bohemian pils I’ve had. I love Benelux but I hate that you need to be on facebook to know what’s happening there, and apparently I am not “modern” enough because I’m not on internet social networking… go 01100110 01110101 01100011 01101011 yourself people.

On tap at Benelux, pours a dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma of light toasted malt and toasted nuts - not a whole lot going on . Flavour is the same, with a somewhat metallic finish. Not much hop presence. Boring and a bit stale tasting. Not so good.

rederic (2949) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 29, 2012
Deep brown -black color, with a tan head, mild yeasty fruity, faint earthy roasted, chocolate, toasted malt nose with some light ground roasted coffee bean, floral tobacco leaf accents in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a sweet mild roasted, chocolate, toasted, coffee, chocolate chip cookie dough, milk chocolate character, with some light baking chocolate bar, faint mochaish flavours, leading towards a mild chocolatey, light mocha, coffee, fruity, lingering subtle tobaccoish leafy bittering finish.

Draught at the brewpub, June 9. Pours a very dark brown with an average size lasting creamy tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, nuts, chocolate and very light hops. Flavour of dark fruit, lightly toasted malt and light chocolate. Average to medium bodied. A very good version of the style.

Dark brown. No head. Smooth with dark chocolate malts. Decent dark lager but not a pilsner at all.
