The pour reveals a black color with brown highlights and a thin light brown head. Solid aroma of hops with roasted and slightly smoky malt. Superb flavor of hops with roasted malt, there’s some dryness and lasting bitterness in the end. I could drink a truckload of this beer and still want some more, it’s that good.

Black color, with some mahogany highlights, with a creamy tan-beige head, mild roasted, toasted malt nose, with some light cappuccino, mochaish accents, with some chocolate, fruity plummy, coffee notes, within a faint floral hop leafy aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a good roasted, chocolate, black malt character with some nice flowery hop leafy, grassy, piney accents and some coffee bean, bitter dark chocolate flavours, leading towards a good piney, cedray hop bitterness finish.

[on tap at brewpub] Pine hops aroma that nearly drowns out chocolate/mocha malt. Opaque, viscous, black with a tight, beige ring and wisps. Excellent vanilla and mocha roasted malt flavour nicely complimented by pine and grapefruit hops. Light to medium body, medium carbonation, lingering grapefruit bitter finish. Excellent.

Tap. Moderate to heavy malt and hop aromas of toasted bread, caramel, and pine resin, faint dough for the yeast, with hints of pepper and wood. Head is frothy, creamy, light tan with good lacing and legs and is mostly lasting. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts faint sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, creamy, with a soft to lively carbonation. Great balance between malt and hops in this Black IPA, all dark and toasty stuff, and a perfect feel for the style.

On tap at Benelux. (Listed as a "west coast stout" at 6.8%). The aroma is all hops - no roast or caramel features. Lots of fresh hops. The flavour has lots of hops early, some roast in the middle, and some chocolate at the end. Nice lingering bitterness. Full creamy body. Nice beer.

Tap at the brewery. Great, round beer. Aromas of coffee, herbs, chocolate, and liquorice. Taste has a sweet start, with bitterness taking over for a long finish. Palate is creamy, with a medium-to-full body. Dark brown, with a frothy white head.

Sample at the 2010 VT Brewers Fest - Pours a clear black/brown in color with a small tan head that faded, but left some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is plenty hoppy... both citrus and pine... with a hefty amount of roasted malts, along with just a bit of chocolate and coffee. Flavor was the same... minus most of the hop flavors... and that was a bit disappointing. Still a decent black IPA though...
