Brewed to a smooth, chocolatey, semi-roasted ale that bridges the islands of porter and stout. And if you aren’t a fan of bridges, there’s always the canoe.

Pours a deep black with no real head, though that head would be beige. Toasty roasty burnt aroma with some coffee and a bit of caramel. Taste is surprisingly citrusy. Toast and coffee flavors dominate the mid game with just a touch of sweetness. Kind of watery, though you could call it juicy thanks to the citrus notes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap. Potent sweet coffee aroma with faint dark chocolate. Hazy brown-black under a persistent, beige blanket. Sweet coffee and toasty toffee flavour with a decent amount of bitterness to balance the sweet black and dark crystal malt character. Notes of licorice and hazelnuts. Medium body, moderate to medium carbonation, smooth, though slightly chalky.

Draft at the brewery. Yes, it’s black, with a thin tan top. It gives a java aroma. This drinks with a strong coffee flavor, but borders on the watery side. Nice bitter wake-me-up. (#5674, 8/29/2014)

Pours black with a small tan head and some lacing. Aroma is roasted malt and chocolate. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, caramel, vanilla, and roasted malt with some bready notes. Medium body with little carbonation. Good, solid stout here.

Cam from Four Firkins. Pours black with a brown head leaving a lot of spots of lace. Aroma has dark chocolate, molasses, caramel and some roast. Taste is of sweet caramel, molasses, heavy roast and some bakers chocolate. Medium to full bodied with a touch of alcohol. Finishes more bitter than sweet on that bitter-sweet scale. A solid nice entre! 14.3

Rich charcoal black. Meat, smoke and French press bring the intoxicating, nostalgic campfire roast; the first aroma of my craft beer adventure. Gamey and dense, and fragrant with the warm nuttiness of the freshest light roast grounds.

Lightly oxidized coffee flavor with aluminum and iron, offset by graham sweetness and cocoa powder. Distantly vegetal and astringent with notes of green bell pepper, especially while cold. Warmth facilitates oily nut skin flavors and tannic pit fruit depth.

Medium palate, texturally loose but not thin, finishing with soft tannin and red wine acidity. Left behind is a long trail of sticky caramel and toffee. Fresh coffee grounds prevalent throughout, especially if not consumed cold.

Can. Dark black pour, little head, lasting lacing and an aroma of roasted dark malt and chocolate. Flavor is also nice creamy dark chocolate, some nice hints of hops and finished a tiny bit smokey. Solid.

My favorite Bent Paddle beer. Easy to drink dark beer and interesting flavors. A little chocolate malty taste. Will continue to get in Minnesota.

12 oz can purchased at France 44 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The pour is a slightly hazed brown copper black with a well formed 1 inch head. Nice retention on the head. The aroma is char roast along with a bit of vanilla. The taste is a pleasant blend of the char roast and soft sweet malt. Nut and pine come out as the beer warms. Simple, clean and nice. The palate is medium to light bodied with active soft carbonation and a char dry mineral finish. Tasty, glad I grabbed a six pack.

Can poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lingering ring of tan foam. Aromas of smoke, roasted malt, coffee and light bakers cocoa. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of roastiness, smoke and light bakers cocoa with a crisp lingering roasty finish.
