Pours a deep black with no real head, though that head would be beige. Toasty roasty burnt aroma with some coffee and a bit of caramel. Taste is surprisingly citrusy. Toast and coffee flavors dominate the mid game with just a touch of sweetness. Kind of watery, though you could call it juicy thanks to the citrus notes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pour on tap at Town Hall tap, dark brownish black pour with off white lacing head, aroma brought notes of dark cocoa, roast, some caramel, grass, pine, hints of orange peel. Taste its a mix of dark chocolate, orange, pine into some spice, slight roast, coffee, finishing bitter, dry. Pretty nice.

8/11/13 pint glass at Grandma's in Duluth. Black as midnight. Aroma malt and chocolate. Creamy head. Comes on strong and ends smooth. Strong flavor of dark roasted malt. Leaves pronounced foam rings with each drink. Good session beer for primarily cooler weather. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from a can into english pint glass. Medium tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee and hints of pine and grass. I really like this beer even though it is a bit thinner than most stouts.

Iím rating this beer as it stands coming out of the tap on nitro. The beer sits wonderfully in an English pint glass. Wonderful black color with an ivory head. What I noticed first about this beer, in comparison to other black ales, was how drinkable it was. Front-end notes of coffee malt with a moderate hop finish. The beer comes of the palate very nicely, and does not linger; something I really appreciate with my ales. Very nicely balanced. This beer should be experienced on nitro, as the velvety texture and mouth feel is suberb. I would agree that this beer is thin in comparison to other black ales, but thatís something to be lauded, in my opinion.

On tap at Grumpyís NE pours a dark brown/black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and chocolate. Taste of roasted malts, chocolate, slight piney bitter hops with a slick palate. Iíd say this swings more to the side of decent porter.

Pretty good version of a stout. Pours a dark black with smallish head. Aroma is full of roasted malt. Flavor is a pretty balanced combination of roast coffee and grain, with a lot of malt sweetness. Semi-bitter finish.
