Draft: Dark ruby. Dense head with off-white swirls. Subdued nose of molasses-glazed pecans, black cherries, nougat, and deeply buried roasted malt. Lightly bodied but softly fluffy in texture. Opens with a grainy mixture of cane sugar and roasted grains. Intriguing medley of ever changing flavors ranging from rich molasses-dipped roasted hazelnuts and caramelized custard, with trailing flashes of woody roast dryness and creamed java with a light dusting of cinnamon. Brilliantly understated roastiness gains more softness by a dash of vanilla, which compounds the overall relaxed nature of the brew. Becomes dryly chocolaty and sweetly sappy toward the center, which pillars the thinnish body as the dryness perfectly tempers the sweetness Finishes with hints of caramelized custard over a seamlessly blended display of refined roast and lightly scorched toffee. Another deliciously mellow session Imperial.

Had this on tap at the brewpub awhile back. A nice entry from BR with a typical but nice profile.

draft at brewpub.......aroma: nothing too unique on this front. assertive chocolate malt flavor.....appearance: medium bodied, dark brownish black pour w/ medium sized tan head....taste: sweet with little to no bitterness. consisted primarily of chocolate and toasty malts. medium body and mouthfeel.....very passable and enjoyable IS but lacked the extra oomph.

Draft at the brewpub. Poured a deep, dark brown color with red-orange highlights. Head was thick, tan and left some lace behind. Aroma was of rich milk chocolate and molasses. Full bodied and candy sweet with a distinct malty milk chocolatey flavor. Not bad.

Tankx to me man duane, bottle from a growler. Thsi was tastey. Poured a dark clear brown/black. Not much head, but with all the poured and transport, no points of. Aroma was roasted malts and some choclate, and the taste was good too. Lots of chocolate up front, followed with coffee and some creaminess as well. Smooth with no bitterness and I slight bite alcohol. Duane, you are a true ratebeerian, my first tarde , and a good man. Thanks again.

thx to duane for a bottled from growler bottle. dark brown pour, but still very translucent, thin layer of foamy white head. aroma of chocolate, and some coffee and licorice tones as well. a nice flavor, an almost bourbon taste leads the way to a very sweet, chocolate tail. barely any bitterness at all, and a nice warm mouthfeel. the body is pretty thin, you could even see as you poured it. not quite up to par with the upper reaches of the I.S. family, but overall, a nice easy to drink stout beer.

on tap at the brewpub and brought home a growler. a solid stout by the folks at Bent River. roasted malt with chocolate and some coffee undertones. I was told this batch was aged longer and has a bit more ABV than the original Impy. Stout. This is an excellent stout, but with just a medium body it’s not quite the Imperial Stout many of us have become accustomed to drinking of late.

On tap at the brewpub. Now that’s a stout. Unfortunately, it’s just not up to par for an outstanding Imperial stout. The bartender, Neil, says that it is still young. It did not have as much body as I would have expected, but it did have the requisite "almost barleywine" sweetness. At 7.5-8% abv, this is easy on the palate. Head retention better than the oatmeal stout. Sort of like drinking Vicks Formula 44-D: it's good medicine, you know it's good for you. Go ahead, take your medicine.
