3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at brewpub
When I saw this on the menu I knew I had to order a sample. There’s no way I could have finished a full pint. Even the four ounce taster was tough to complete. With a strong jalapeno punch this certainly lives up to its title. Perhaps Shorts will try something similar in the near future.
Aroma / Appearance - Amber brown and bubbly the appearance does not give away the pepper bomb that lurks within. It is so intense I could detect little other than freshly sliced jalapeno peppers. Were this a bag of Doritos it could not have been more distinct.
Flavor / Palate - Blended jalapenos mixed with a typical wheat beer create a Frankenstein. Perhaps it is because I do not like spicy foods that this was not my cup of tea. Even so it is a bit more than a one trick pony. If it could add just a trace of complexity the result would be a release that deserved more attention. Right now this one is not worth seeking out unless you happen to be in the area.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Love the smell but feel the peppers overwhelm the beer. It is loaded with peppers on the nose and the flavor is pretty much all peppers too. Hard to drink more than a few sips but yet I am somehow liking it.

1.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Draft sampled at a tasting event. From notes. Super hot jalapeno with a little green pepper and random adjunct grains. Meh, not really my thing.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap at brewpub, pours a clear golden with no head or lacing, the aroma is has a nice touch of spice and fruit at the same time, there is for sure some spice in the overall flavor but wasn’t one of my favorites at Bent River, glad I tried it once though.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap poured on the darker side of golden with no head. Spicy pepper aroma with some sweet malt trying to peek through. Flavor is dominated by the peppers with a nice amount of heat again with a little malt in the background.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap. Light clear orange pour, minimal lasting carbonation and an aroma of fresh spicy jalapeno. Flavor started with bitter green pepper and then gradually slides into the fresh cut jalapeno flavor and finishes with a good long burn. Decent beer, but only in small doses.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Nearly clear copper pour with a 3 finger, chunky beige head that has great retention and leaves pretty nice lacing. Aroma is loaded with earthy dried jalapenos (earthy enough I would think there could be some anchos in here), toast, chalky mineral notes and old grain. Flavor is very earthy up front with a light, old barn wood/cardboard sort of woodiness/oxidization, dried jalapenos, biscuit, some spicy and citrus hops and toasty malt. Light to medium body with a very active carbonation slightly goopy feel and pleasant capsaicin heat. Pretty good overall,.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Dark amber with medium head. Caramel and pepper aroma, in that order. Pepper flavor is not dominant, as if beer was "dry hopped" with peppers. Caramel malt flavor is there. Not nearly abrasive as Cave Creek's Chili Beer.

2.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Date: July 26, 2011 Mode: Draft Source: Bent River Brewpub, Moline, IL Appearance: Translucent golden with almost no head. Aroma: Strong spicy jalapeno. Flavor: Consistent with aroma, thin bodied. Other: Wow, very interesting, the name isn’t lying. A for uniqueness, but not a great choice if you plan to have a different beer after because you feel the heat well after you are done.
