4oz sampler at the Bent River brewpub. Poured a close-to-black color with a small tan head. Aroma had plenty of chocolate malts, with some grain and oat characters, some cereal. Flavor was nice and chocolate, with oat-grain notes. This was pretty enjoyable. I enjoyed the palate a bit more with this one over the Uncommon Stout.

Dark brown with a tan head. A fathers day gift from my son. Nice Malty aroma with chocolate, some coffee and roast Malts. The flavor was similar, slightly sweet and easy drinking. A bit thin but still quite good.

On tap at Bent River in Moline. I though this was pretty basic overall (though I often do with oatmeal stouts), but with a nice creamy base and high drinkability. Came poured with a thin, wispy tan head, and medium to light appearance stout wise. Aroma has some good dark cocoa malts, cereal grains, and earth. Also, some hazy mocha in the nose as well. The body is light, yet rich, creamy, with a prominent candy malt. To describe the flavors: a good amount of cereal grains, minor roast, light sweet berries, candy fruit, earth, and some non-distinct hop. More balance and subtleties come out as it warms. Still, this impressed me as being too straight forward, with things not coming together perfectly. Not bad though.

Draft sample. Poured a black color with a medium off-white creamy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium toasted chocolate malt aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy roasted sweet malt flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of average duration. Solid drinkable brew.

Date: July 26, 2011 Mode: Draft Source: Bent River Brewpub, Moline, IL Appearance: Opaque dark brown with almost no head, good lacing. Aroma: Roasted oatmeal or granola. Flavor: Consistent with aroma, thin to medium bodied and slightly carbonated. Other: Not too exciting, the Uncommon Stout is much better.

This beer was really good, a grand Stout, but trust me, Bent River has another Stout that tops this one!

Bomber thanks to Merkin666. Pours a nearly black, ruby brown with a 2 finger, creamy, beige head that fades to a thick skim after a couple of minutes. Aroma is roast, slightly over toasted granola, puffed wheat cereal, caramelized corn syrup (like in caramel corn), light chocolate, toast, and caramel. Flavor is roast, chocolate, burnt sugar, a little char, hints of oatmeal, more puffed wheat cereal (odd, but tasty in this case), caramel and a touch of crusty, yeasty bread here and there. Palate is medium bodied, creamy on entry, becoming a little dry toward the middle and dry to the finish, and a moderate, slightly sharp carbonation. Really good stuff, could use a little extra lasting heft to the body and a slightly less sharp carbonation, but itís still a really nice stout.

20100608 Tap at brewpub. Pretty standard brewpub oatmeal stout that is okay but very plain. Some pleasantly dry burnt caramel notes. This one could definitely deal with a light sweetness, but overall itís quite dry.
