Betn River has some of the best beers I have had. I may be partial because I used to live in the Quad Cities and Bent River was THE QC brewery. This a very well balanced, roasty stout with coffee hints. When I am not in the mood for the uncommon, I have the outmeal instead. I had a keg of this beer and the IPA driven down for my wedding in Florida. Definately a huge hit at the reception. BR always puts a lot of effort into the appearance of their beers as well as balance and flavor.

This beer was really good, a grand Stout, but trust me, Bent River has another Stout that tops this one!

UPDATED: MAY 17, 2010 Have had on tap many times at Bent River, and this is one of my favorites, and is my fiancee’s absolute favorite. Great coffee and chocolate notes, a creamy mouthfeel, and an all around great beer.

bottle, another thanks to Cheap...great call. Black pour, 1 inch brown head. An oatmeal stout that was not rude or assertive. Well balanced, chocolate malt notes with a subtle oatmeal flavor. Medium body, nice slight bite from a stout.

UPDATED: APR 9, 2006 Recieved a hand bottled sample courtesy of Duane. Thanks. Black body that shows a beautiful ruby color when held to the light. The aroma is strong roasted coffee with some chaocolate and peanuts. The taste has roasted peantus and coffee. There is also some caramel. A fairly sweet finish. Nice. I had this again at Old Chicago in Coralville, IA. Got about the same rating. Good stuff.

THe Bent River never dissapoints me with their beers. This Oatmeal stout, for some reason reminds me of fresh baked bread with a hint of honey. Almost like a light honey glaze. Great color and a thick head give this a great filling taste. Must try!

On tap @ the Bent River Brewpub. Nice deep dark body with a tan head. Aromas of coffee/chocolate/cheerios. Light chocolate flavors with coffee and oats.

Bomber thanks to Merkin666. Pours a nearly black, ruby brown with a 2 finger, creamy, beige head that fades to a thick skim after a couple of minutes. Aroma is roast, slightly over toasted granola, puffed wheat cereal, caramelized corn syrup (like in caramel corn), light chocolate, toast, and caramel. Flavor is roast, chocolate, burnt sugar, a little char, hints of oatmeal, more puffed wheat cereal (odd, but tasty in this case), caramel and a touch of crusty, yeasty bread here and there. Palate is medium bodied, creamy on entry, becoming a little dry toward the middle and dry to the finish, and a moderate, slightly sharp carbonation. Really good stuff, could use a little extra lasting heft to the body and a slightly less sharp carbonation, but it’s still a really nice stout.
