COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Every year the members of the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild commit to a style of beer and, using the exact same ingredients, individually brew and present to the public this unique project. The 2007 offering is "American Red Ale" with the recipe created by Jonathon Cutler and Matt Brynildson. The recipe calls for Canadian Pale malt along with wheat, Chocolate malt and Caramel malt, with dry hopping of Cascade and Fuggles hops.

Draft at the brewpub. I also had Flossmoor Station’s version of this earlier in the day. Poured a slightly hazy orange-red color. Head was thin, off white, and left some decent lace behind. Aroma was very similar to the Flossmoor version; malty caramel and flowery/citrusy hops. Dry on the tongue with a dominant spicy malt flavor, but less intense grapefruity hop taste than the Flossmoor version. There was some pleasant light hop bitterness at the end.

Slight esters and metals on the nose with the same on the flavor with a surprisingly nice hoppy kick.

Ruby umber color with a smallish off-white head. Caramel and toast lead the way in scent with some dry floral hops in the background. To me this had all the makings of a simple red ale. Not that simple is bad, but sometimes simplicity is needed when making a somewhat simple brew. Light malt and again some floral hops. American/irish red ale mix. This is one of those simple brews that I could spend a session with and not get tired of. Basic and simple is sometimes nice.

from a growler at a friends house on the 4th of July. reddish - mahogany in color with a decent head and lacing. caramel malts dominate the aroma and flavor, but with a fair amount of citrus and some flowery hops. seemed more like a toned down marzen than an amber.
