2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: JUL 21, 2013 Bottle poured mahogany brown with a lingering ring of tan foam. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Mouthfeel was a bit thin for a stout compared to most. Decent beer but I?d say average for the category.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap at brewery
Pours black with barely any head. Nose is hugely roasty lots of coffee. Flavors exhibit the same but it’s a tad sour. Not infected just think it’s the malt and maybe water issues. Still it’s pretty solid but lacks a good body. Love the char on this.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle courtesy of "Mr. Plumpy". Colour...basically black with a thin tan head. Nose...very heady coffee aromas. Palate...whew! Cold brewed coffee with a bit of ethanol. There’s a tangy aspect to this and some fruity notes ( perhaps the type of beans). The finish is semi dry.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
355ml bottle. Brown pour, large head. Aroma is coffee and earth. Falvor is sweet with coffee tones, nuts, spice, low body, weird that it is so highly rated.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle. 42F. Tulip glass room temp. The stout pours with visable body and develops its milk chocolate head slowly. Head disapates quickly (2 min.) and then maintains a ring. Aroma is reminiscent of caramel candies. The stout is very roasty, essence of chocolate, but like the head disapates off of the tounge quickly and leaves an earthy/soil flavor. No noticeable foward flavor, most flavor is at the middle and back of the palate. I was hoping for more with this stout, the body was low and the flavor was fleeting.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz Bottle from The Bent River Brewing This was one of the beers sent each month form AOPD. the stout pored a pitch black with small tan head that quickly dissipated. The strong aroma of earthy burnt malt and coffee greet you. The stout had a thin body and very soft carbonation. Some chocolate is evident in the taste, Very average stout, needs more body. the finish was clean and weak.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap. Pours black with a quickly dissipating brown head. Aroma is of chocolate, alcohol, coffee, and roasted malt. Taste is of chocolate, coffee, and brown sugar. Backbone of roasted malt. Lingering bitter chocolate taste. Mouthfeel is very carbonated, and slightly creamy. Body is light, but not thin. Goes down very easy. Not bad, and it drinks easy.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a nearly pitch black color with a two finger head of a tan colored foam. The head fades moderately quickly to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is big of a roasty smell mixed with a good showing of a coffee aroma. Along with these smells comes some lighter notes of a caramel and vanilla sweetness as well as a little bit of a crème and an oatmeal like aroma. Overall the aroma, while not a powerhouse, is rather pleasant and inviting.
Taste – The taste begins with a blend of sweet and roast with the sweet being predominantly of a caramel and toffee flavor but having a little bit of chocolate mixed within. From the start there is a light coffee flavor which grows in intensity as the taste moves on. There is also a good showing of an oatmeal flavor up front which actually dwindles as the taste moves on. While the oatmeal falls, flavors of a vanilla sweetness and some more grainy tastes take its place. With all the transitions that occur on the tongue toward the end, one is left with a rather sweet and smooth roasty coffee flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is a little thicker for a stout of only 5.4 % abv with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. For the dark, sweet, and coffee flavors of the brew the feel is rather well done as it makes for a robust feel for all the rich roasty and dark flavors.
Overall – A rather decent oatmeal coffee stout that isn’t overly potent in alcohol. This will make for a rather nice sipping brew in the cooler weather I am sure.
