Cask conditioned - handpump - Malt Shovel Northampton. A golden coloured beer with a fruity oranges and lemons aroma. The taste is fruity and bitter but there is an off-putting chewiness to it.

[Cask conditioned] Golden coloured. Rather light aroma and flavour with some fruity notes. Slightly bland.

Cask at Old Joint Stock, Birmingham. A little bit bland, verging on unappetising. Thin, salty, with some tinny hops and nettley flavour. Not the best Beowulf.
1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 haddonsman (1234) - Derby, Derbyshire, ENGLAND - NOV 16, 2004
Cask at Old Joint Stock, Birmingham. A disappointment compared to other Beowulf beers I’ve tried, sharp aroma, very watery, sharp and sour taste that lingered too long. Could be a rogue barrel, could be a poorly produced bitter.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 chriso (7063) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 1, 2004
Canterbury Beer Festival, with Silk Tork. Gold/amber colour. Bready pale malt and hop aroma, with a hint of malt. Clean and dry on the palate, again with a hint of malt, but nothing very distinctive. A straightforward session bitter. Rather thin. Cask (gravity dispense).
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 SilkTork (4736) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - JUL 24, 2004
Canterbury Fest. Pale malt aroma. Basic dry session bitter. Floral notes. Chalky and rubbery finish. Odd and unpleasant after-taste. Beowulf’s two beers didn’t impress here at Canterbury. They have been going since 1997, but have not yet acquired a reputation. On this showing that is quite understandable.
