2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 tombyars (679) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - OCT 6, 2011
Tried this golden ale in the Three Judges, Glasgow in September 2003. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear amber in colour with a thin white head. Slight roast grain note in the short aroma. Resiny thin mouth feel and poor lacing. Pale malts give a smokey malt flavour with dry roasted peanuts and green pepper evident. Very dry spicy hops give a tart aftertaste. This continues into the dry finish. A decent blond ale and ideal for a summer session.

Cask, Criterion, Leicester. Light gold with a thin foam. Aromas are floral with stewed apple and some caramel. Lemon with tea and hints of sulphur. Flavours are dry and woody with some background caramel sweetness. Grassy and dry with a peppery, bitter finish. A little bit rough but decent overall.

Cask at the Briar Rose, Birmingham, UK on 28th December, 2009. Gold with thin, lasting white lacing head. Hoppy with some peppery notes and grassiness; brief caramel malt interlude before a very dry finish on a zingy texture. Just a hint of saline. Full of condition, very well kept by the pub too!

UPDATED: SEP 25, 2009 Cask gravity, 2nd Bulkington Beer Festival. Still amber gold. Nose white grape juice, musky hopcone; some wet oaky wood, alcohol, spliff. Rich and full malt character overlaid with citrus and stone fruit. Dryish, slightly boozy and humming softly with citrus hop, grape, mushed-up custard cream, oat and vanilla afters. Satisfying, full and dry. Octo couldn’t leave it alone. Another winner from Beowulf.

Cask in the market porter. Alround rating: Good balance of fruity lemon hop and some sweeter fruit cake like malt character. Balanced and very drinkable.

Cask handpull at The Hop Pole Inn, Aylesbury, Bucks, 21-07-09 Pours gold with tight white head. There is a little fruit and malt on the nose, these also appear in the mouth. Surprisingly bitter and a bitterness that lingers, the end is rather dry. Really quite enjoyable. A6 A4 F7 P4 Ov14 3.5
