Dark brown color. Tobacco leaves, coffee and slight nutty nose. Med full bodied. Very malty good mouth feel, but doesn’t deliver the depth of Hobson’s Mild. Decent straight forward brown ale.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines and spirits, Birmingham. Poured a dark red with a thin tan short-lived head. The aroma is malty but rather weak. The flavour is bitter with smoky roasted malts. A super beer and another winner from Beofulf.

Cask. Pours a dark mahogany, with a thin beige head. Off-dry, medium body and bitterness, balanced CO2. Roasted, malty taste, caramel, coffee, fudge, ash, chocolate. Nice. (2012-11-23)

Mild roasted aroma, its chocolate malts are evident in the taste which are again mild. Smooth textured dark ale.

BlackHaddock (3183) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 8, 2012
Mild in May: bottle conditioned 500ml. Out of date by some four months, poured slowly into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 8th May 2012. Deep, dark Ruby red body with a huge biege head that gushed out the bottle. Malty nose and taste, fairly rich and full bodied, well carbonated and interesting. Chocolate and coffee hints from the maltiness, but not too heavy or overpowering. Fuggles hops kick in late and give the beer a balanced bitterness to counteract the malty sweetness initially found in the flavour.

Cask at the NWAF, 2012. My notes didn’t note down the colour but I imagine it was dark! Dark roast coffee aroma with a hint of vanilla and smoke. Chocolate, vanilla and coffee flavour. Very tasty.

Cask @ Bodega, Newcastle.
Pours dark ruby red colour with light head, leaves some lacing. Aroma of chocolate, light roasted malts and caramel. Flavour of chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. Very smooth palate, somewhat like a chocolate infused Guinness.

GBBF. Cask. Very dark brown beer, clear. Light and softish palate. Light tangy fruity malt. A small amount of unsweet chocolate. A little repressed bubblegum. Well joined up and tasty.

2nd August 2011
GBBF Cask. Clear red brown beer, residual suddy tan head. Light smooth palate. Sweetish plums well integrated with very mild dark malts. Some boiled sweets underneath. Semi dry finish.
