Sigmund (1961), Hafrsfjord, Norway Nov 8, 2005 330 ml clear bottle. Berentsens surprise us again - they have made a slightly mellower version of a Baltic porter as their "klasse F" (Vinmonopolet) Yule/Christmas beer. Dark brown colour, nice and creamy tan head. Very nice roasty aroma with notes of oak, leather, dark bread and coffee. Flavour is moderately roasty and well rounded, elements of coffee, dark chocolate and oak. Tolerable hops. Could use a little more "bite", but this is definitely not a bad beer! rickgordon (3073), Göteborg, Sweden Nov 30, 2005 Bottled.
Dark red-brown. Big, steady head, that lasts. Dark flavour profile, little salty. Ultra-smooth mouthfeelwith a wonderful, light, spicy touch and notes of licorice and fennel. Solidly hopbitter finish. larsga (2314), Oslo, Norway Dec 2, 2005 Tan, creamy head with lots of larger bubbles; deep dark red body,
almost like red wine. Malty, bready aroma with some light burnt,
coffeeish notes, some licorice, hops also faintly noticeable, but
can’t tell what kind. Very harmonic aroma. Taste is very like the
aroma, round and slightly watery. In the aftertaste the burntness
becomes much more pronounced. Aftertaste also slightly dry, with a
peppery feel to it. There is hops here, but hard to detect. Very
harmonic. Overall, an excellent traditional Norwegian Christmas beer,
but a little bit too weak. Had it been more assertive this would have
been a real winner for this style. Papsoe (10433), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jan 8, 2006 (Bottle 33 cl) Beautiful, clear mahogany with a warm, reddish hue and a creamy, brownish head. Very hard roasted - almost burned - aroma. Nice body dominated by bitter, burned malt. A surprising stylistic choice for a Norwegian Christmas beer, but certainly an excellent one. 030106 tarjei (1300), Bryne, Norway Apr 13, 2007 Dark red brown, creamy head. Coffee, dark chocolate, liqourice, roasted, some hop bitterness. Next to Ringnes´ Julebokk, this is the best «dead» Norwegian xmas beer.
