Hilsen Harald Berentsen

Bottled 330ml. -Courtesy of and shared with Marko/heavy (thanks!). Darker amber/brown coloured, small to medium sized off-white head, nutty malty nose. Sweet malty, nutty caramel and discreet hoppy with hint of spices in the finish. Let’s say ordinary beer.

Rating based on the 2015 vintage, bb aug 2016. 33 cl bottle. Beautiful, crystal clear dark reddish brown, three finger beige head. Not much aroma. Thin mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Malty caramel taste up front, love that. Some bitterness at the very end. It’s filtered, not bottle conditioned, and that ruins this beer for me. I bought a six-pack, and is tempted to store the other five in my cellar until next christmas, just to see if it has matured or improved.

Bottle of 2014-edition rated 28.11.14. Clear copper. Very persistent beige head and lacing. Rather moderate aroma, with hints.of syrup and berried. Fine taste of roasted nuts, dark malts, dark berries and dark syrup. Moderate bitterness. Still a bit weak for a Christmas beer.

Smakt I bryggerstua til Berentsen. Helt greit julepils. Ingenting feil, men mangler litt fylde og bitterhet. Greit butikkøl.

0.33l bottle. This is a really classic looking Norwegian juleøl colored one with a clear deep dark almost bronze colored body and a small light bubbly and light lacing off-white head. Good malty and nose going on here. A nice darkness with both old grounded coffee, dark malts, some burned caramel and a soft spicy touch. Doesn’t smell bad at all. It tastes alright as well. Surprisingly well actually. Wasn’t really expecting much, so that could be the reason. It’s both nutty and dark malty in the mouth. Soft oily on the mouthfeel and it’s well carbonated. A faint slightly acidic metal hint disturbs the rest of the dark malty flavors a bit, but not so much that it’s to disturbing. All in all a nice little surprise, but not something I ever would even consider to have with the Christmas food. 09.12.2013

Red, brown clear poy with white small head. Some slightly burnt caramel, coupled with a smoky aroma. Smoky taste as well, slightly bitter with a hint of spices. Light body, thin texture.
