Bottle no. 25 of 1895. A layer of small ruddy brown bubbles, slowly fading. Translucent dark brown body with a ruby glow. Intense aroma. Alcohol soaked dark dried fruits, English fruitcake, bread crust, salmiac and black chocolate/cocoa. Also a scent of higher alcohols, but not harsh and solventy as feared. Big fat malt body with armloads of residual sugars. Distinct roastedness, pepper and spices, stale dark bread and salty licorice in the flavor. A solid hop bitterness in the backbone. Alcohol flavor is present, sweet and kind of boozy. Juicy, almost syrupy texture. Finishes sweet, hot, roasty and bitter. Packed with aromas and flavors. Not entirley balanced, not very rounded either. Yet an impressive brew. I’m looking forward to enjoy the next bottle... a year from now.

Bottle at Plovmand. Dark brown coloured with a small beige head. Sweet aroma of caramel, dried fruits and liquorice with notes of alcohol and dark chocolate. Sweet and roasted flavour of dried fruits, liquorice and alcohol. Warming alcoholic finish. Too alcoholic.

Small brown head. Deep dark red barely translucent body. Vinuous alcoholic spicy aroma with bubblegum and roasty molasses notes. Intense dry-sweet spicy roasty soy sauce and alcohol taste with toffee, aniseed, and chocolate notes. Hot, burning mouthfeel lasts for a long time after the last swallow. Very full-bodied indeed. Dry-sweet sugary roasty chocolate aftertaste with herbal alcohol notes. Complex and fairly good, but also sharp and strong alcohol. Will try cellaring it to see how it fares. (0.5l bottle, Vinmonopolet Lørenskog, Oslo.)

UPDATED: AUG 28, 2012 Bottle, thx Rasmus. A flat, clear, brown beer without head. Very alcoholic, but nice. Dried fruits, caramel, some roasted malts and some chocolate. Full-bodied and very warming. Alcohol, dried dark fruits, some licorice-like saltyness, caramel, hints of chocolate and a touch of something herbal in the flavor. Lasting, warm finish with a little spice-like burn. A nice one, but rough and edgy. As expected of course. Will cellar the last bottle for some time. Rating: 7-3-7-3-14-3.4. 110129

Bottle. No 0655. A clear, dark brown beer topped by a minimal sized head. Molasses, beef stock, licorice hints, caramel maltyness, hints of coffee and spicyness, and alcohol on the nose. It’s warming and full-bodied on the palate, with caramel maltyness, roasted, almost coffeeish elements, beef stock, licorice and of course, alcohol. Quite sweet, but not cloying in any way. Bitterness shows up in the warming finish. Overall, it’s too intense, especially on the alcohol, but I like it anyway. Certainly a beer to share. 111229

Ikke mye skum. Men det er jo mye alkohol. Lukter soja. Og maltekstrakt. Bør nok lagres endel øl. God øl i forhold til prosenten
