Canned, 500ml, 5% ABV from The New International Store, Banbury, Oxon. Pale gold with short white fizzed head. Sometimes when you expect the worst things don’t turn out so bad, and this was a case in point. There is a sweet maltiness to this, but pretty clean and fresh, there is a light lemon note with a hint of floweriness. Simple but effective, it was okay.

AndoBrew brought back a shlew of Romanian beers from his recent European excursion. I’m told Romanian beer can be a real special treat. Here’s hoping! Apperance: Pours a clear, light yellow body with a fizzy white head. Lightly effervescent. Smell: Exceedingly light pale malts with a touch of spicy hops. The aroma is marred by the addition of cooked musty vegetables. Taste: Thin, weak maltiness with a subtle sweetness and some spice-minded hops are thrown under the bus by that darned vegetal flavor which rides the tongue through to the finish. Mouthfeel: Thin-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Fairly unpleasant. This is indeed a bad start to the Night of Romanian Beers.

Bottle. Golden beer with a light head. The aroma is is weak and oaty, and the flavour is very, very dry, with a oaty/cereal feel. Overall a poor beer.

500ml can. Is a very pale yellow lager with medium head, low retention and almost no lacing. Metallic aroma with a hint of harsh Romanian spring water, very little grassy hops, reinvigorating. Surprisingly harsh malty-hop taste, considering the lack of it in the nose, same spring water, some cereals. Medium carbonation.

Bottle at a Cafeteria in Brasov, Romania, March 2012. Clear bubbly golden with a frothy white head. Grassy hops and mineral aroma, faint malt-piss too. Faint bitterness and malty sweetness. Very carbonated, too light body. Thirst quencher, nothing more.

UPDATED: JUN 13, 2005 (Bottle 50 cl) Straightforward golden colour with a moderate head. Decent Pilsener with a somewhat metallic edge. "Bere de calitate" - Quality beer -the label reads. Now now.... Easy does it. Apparently the sponsor of the national Romanian soccer team, which may explain their lack of results in recent years. 030803

500ml Bottle from Tesco, Bicester Poured light golden colour with white head. the merest whiff of sweet malts on the nose led me onto a quite forgettable beer, I struggled to find much flavour at all, very mild, quite safe but there was a slight bitterness there, ok.
