4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 boddhitree (56) - Frankfurt, Hesse, GERMANY - MAY 9, 2013
Brauerei Berghammer from Oberndorf has a Kupfer [copper] beer, which says it’s unfiltriert and naturtrüb [unfiltered] & [naturally cloudy].
It’s a dirty white, vanilla-colored head under a red-brown-orange beer, dark copper. Aroma is all malt, caramel, Münchner of course with a hint of bitterness behind it. The initial flavor is sweet and bitter simultaneously. It’s sweetness is a pure roasted barley maltiness around the back and front of the tongue, with a slight sourness added in the back, too. I get bitterness on the front and sides. It’s got the same not-too-thick, not-too-thin mouthfeel of the Winkler Kupfer. To tell the truth, I can’t distinguish the Winkler from the Berghammer Kupfer. This one is slightly bitterer and leaves a bitter, slightly sour aftertaste. Overall, a really good beer, and again, I wouldn’t travel to get it, or order a lot of it online, but if I were in the area, I’d love to try it fresh on tap.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Maria (9562) - Thisted, DENMARK - FEB 24, 2012
It’s hazy dark copper with a creamy, lasting head. The aroma has notes of butter and caramel. The flavor is moderately sweet and slightly harsh with notes of burnt caramel and butter. The finish is slightly sweet and harsh - a little boring.

Trocken malziger und recht milder Antrunk, bereits hier eintönig. Mild, langweilig, kein Arome entwickelt sich - egal in welche Richtung. Sehr langweilig, dezent röstig. Unspektakulär. 8/7/6/7//7

Bottle looks simple, but good, the beer in the glass dark, modest turbid, nice head. Starts strong, malty fruity, modest dry, a bit floury, but that get better in the finish. Well balanced, warming, quite drinkable. Really nice!

Swing-top bottle. Toffee malt and hay/light barnyard aroma - very nice. Slightly hazy dark amber color with large head. Sweet toffee malt and moderately bitter grass/fresh hay hops. Mild cola aftertaste. An excellent dunkel.

Bottle, thanks pivnizub.
Clear dark copper with a few floaties, impressive golden foam. Aromatic hop nose.
Citric and dry grassy entry, toasted bread. Dry hop mouthfeel, citric exhaling. Medium bozy fizzly mouthfeel. Nice!

Bügelverschlußflasche (purchased at the Brauereigasthof): Slightly hazy, amber - not copper - coloured, extremely stable, rocky beige head; grassy hoppy nose with a barnyardy background and a tinge of roasted malt; solid bitter-sweet flavour, soft F, light to medium bodied; lingering hoppy finish, balanced by sweet caramel and a tinge of yeast. Tastes far better than it smells........
