me likey a good stout and this is one. Coffee on top with berries underneath. Quite refreshing for a stout. Another good Berghoeve beer. Bottle from De Bierkoning.

[Thanks to bierkoning]. 33cl bottle. Black colour with a frothy tan head. Aroma is toasty and malty. Flavour has notes of toaste malts, licorice and dark chocolate. The aftertaste is slightly sweet and toasty. Carbonation is medium. Texture is oily. Medium to high body.

Pitch black opague colour, nice brown head. Smells ’roze kermis zoetstok’, sweet, candy, glue. Tastes slightly roasty, sweet, candy, ’roze kermis zoetstok’ and some chocolate. The original hammer schout is more to my likings. Good carbo, medium body.

Bottle from Bierkoning, many thanks! Almost black with a creamy, beige, not too durable head. Aroma is heavily roasted, with dark chocolate, licorice, a slight fruitiness and walnuts. Also, there is a nice component somewhere between peat and pipe tobacco. Medium carbonation, moderately full body. Oily consistency, sweet-bitter taste with a sweet-bitter finish. The flavour is heavily roasted - grain and bread, both burned almost to ash. Retronasal there’s lots of earth and ash. Also, in the aftertaste there is this tobacco-like component, reminding me of some whisky. Would love to taste this beer whisky cask-conditioned.

33cl bottle @ home, bought from the brewery. Pitch black color, small beige to light brown head. Slightly roasty aroma with hints of sweet and chocolate. Taste roasted malts more clearly then I smelled them, also slightly sweetish, coffee and chocolate hints. Medium body and carbonation. I liked the 8% version better, the sweetness in this one makes it less good imo.

Bottled @ home. Dark color, short creamy off-white head. Aroma of dark malts, roasted barley, some chocolat, hint of lactose. Slight sweet, bit bitter. Quite creamy texture, slight dry finish. Decent taste, decent beer, nothing outspoken though. Enjoyable.

Bottle, bought @ the brewery. Deep dark brown color. Roast, chloride and ash in the aroma. Roasty maltflavors, yet dry. Hints of licorice and ash. Medium bodied. Firm but deceptively drinkable dry stout.

Bottle@Home. Yeast, chocolate, hint of coffee aroma. Black, light brown head, good lace. Sweetish, light bitter, yeasty, chocolate (increasing towards the finish), hint of coffee, hint of black currant. Light, almost watery although 7%. Not very strong in favours, easy going. pleasant.

PotjeBier (523) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - NOV 27, 2011
33 cl bottle bought at the brewery (7% - tht 07-2016, called Stout - not Russian Imperial). Very dark color (but not quite black/opaque), firm beige head, good lace. Aroma is sweet, toffeeish, with some berries and a bit of roast. Flavor is medium sweet. Body is on the thin side. Not much happening in the finish. Too sweet for a stout. Not bad, but there’s room for improvement.
