Imperial Black IPA, brewed for Harry Pinkster to celebrate his 10.000th tasted beer. Will most probably remain in the portfolio with a name to be announced under the Berghoeve brand.

On tap at the Groningen Bierfestival. Black, really black in the glass. Dark berries and peppermint at the nose.Starts mild, little bit burning alcohol. A lot of dark fruits and burned malt. Hop bitterness present in the background. Like a very spicy Schwarzbier. Very good!

Reddish brown colour, firm beige head. Aroma of caramel, red fruits, tropical fruit, bread and cacao. Sweet malty flavour, roasted malts, bitter hops, a bit like a porter on steroids. Finish cacao, sweet malts, dates, hops and red fruits. Nice brew!!
(from 33cL bottle @ Benzai’s place. Thanks for sharing, Rene!)

Roasty malty aroma, taste starts malty, bitterness is there at the end and stays a long time. The alcohol is very present, but because of the ballence between malt and bitternes its very nice. I think it is a very good Dark IPA with quite a lot of extreem flavours. Well done !

Bottle @ benzai. Thx for sharing this one, benzai. Brown colour with a big, creamy light brown head. Smells sweet, roasty, coffee, some hops. Tastes roasty, coffee, hops, bitter, some dark chocolate, grapefruit. A black ipa like it’s intended. Medium body with nice carbo. Berghoeve delivers again.

Bottle at Dean’s stickiest floor tasting. Pours a dark brown beer with a thin, beige head on top. Aroma of sweet citric hops and roasted characters. Flavor is medium bitter with thick, citric juicy hops in the middle and end of the flavor. Big sweet, citrussy finish. Well balanced, good brew for sure!

Bottle @ dubious evening tasting. Aroma is vinous fruity notes, some malt. Flavour is the same but with a little more bitterness from the yeast.

Bottle at Deano’s monthly tasting, September 2013. Poured a dark mahogany with a frothy off white head. The aroma is of roasted malt with a little rich alcohol. The flavour is strong bitter with a rich, liqourice, alcohol palate.
