Imperial Black IPA, brewed for Harry Pinkster to celebrate his 10.000th tasted beer. Will most probably remain in the portfolio with a name to be announced under the Berghoeve brand.

Opaque dark brown beer, big pale tan head. Another slow gusher from this brewery. Palate is semi dry with mild fine carbonation. Semi dry dark malts, mild roast, touch of dry cream. Sweetish floral candy fruits. Mild piney hops. Smooth semi dry finish. Little spice. Tasty.

Bijna zwart bier, bruine kraag. Enorme bruine kraag.

Smaakt fris, bitter, beetje cassis, grapefruit.

330ml bottle, thanks to Benzai! Pours black with big foamy beige head. Roasted malts and hops in the aroma. Taste is strong with roasted malts, coffee, liquorice mixed with some mild citrus and herbal notes and an earthy bitter linger. Big tasting enjoyable beer and my first from Berghoeve.

Bottle 330 ml at home, poured into a tulip glass. ABV 10% The thick layer of yeast on the bottom of the bottle got me worried, something was telling me that this was going to be a gusher. After reading some reviews I played it safe and I opened it above the sink, but it seems I worried for nothing, Yes it gushes a little bit but very slowly. Anyway, it pours a totally black beer with a huge beige head, very thick and creamy, with fantastic retention, leaving light lacing around the glass. Aroma of roasted malts nicely blended with some light citrus, grapefruit, light chocolate, lemon leaves. Every sniff switches between stout aroma, IPA aroma, then blended and so on and forth. Tastewise is more close to a stout, more roasted than hoppy character and the impression gets even stronger because of the high alcohol level. There is a spicy touch and some orange peel on the finish though. The bitterness on the aftertaste comes definitely from the hops, with a long lasting effect on the tongue and the back of the throat. Medium thick body with fizzy but on good levels carbonation. Dry palate but yes, also sticky. Overall a great beer, one of the best I had from Berghoeve.

Bottle. Gusher! Spilled almost half the bottle :( Murky brown, with loads of tan foam that shrinks to a thin layer. Aroma: grass, citrus, wood, dark berries. Taste: brown sugar, coffee, roast, citrus, herbs, pine, liquorice, somewhat earthy. Medium body, sticky, moderately sweet and bitter, with a long lasting herbal and liquorice finish. Lovely, only need to get the foam under control.

Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass: First gusher I got from this brewery, quite rare. Bigger beige foamy head on top of a deep dark brown to black colored beer. Aromas of roast, coffee, some darker sugars, chalk, wood roast, herbs, some citrus grapefruit tones, some vanilla and some hops. Flavours of bitters, roast, some coffee/espresso, good bitter roasty touch, pepper, some darker sugars, herbal roast, light fruity tones like citrus, raisin and grapefruit, malt roast and some growing bitters. Aftertaste is a mix of bitters, hops, roast, spicy, some citrus and wood roast. Low carbo, creamy spicy mouthfeel, medium to fuller bodied and a creamy texture. Nice beer.
