Gurst (328), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Jul 8, 2005 Pours a thin golden-brown with whiffs of chocolate and swamp in the nose. Flavor is more toffee than chocolate, and these are introduced early in the flavor along with mild floral hops. Not a great balance between the two, but not terrible. Some molasses here as well. A final bite of astringent metal is...not good. Body is very thin and sticky.
esjaygee (951), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Nov 28, 2008 Mahogany with thin tan head. Aroma of caramel, grain and brown sugar. Taste of caramel, dark malts with a semi peppery finish. Halfway decent dunkler bock. IlanMan (658), Winona, Minnesota, USA Nov 20, 2008 Dark brown pour. Aroma of light spice, walnuts, and rice. Slight bit of nuts in the aroma as well. Flavor contained a hint of caramel. Smooth but a bit light on flavor. Perhaps more malt? Yes, more malt. dmtroyer (380), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 21, 2008 12oz. Pours a dark amber/brown with a tan head that disappears pretty quickly. Some sour cherry on the nose that follows into the body. Loads of sour mash in the body that dominates everything else, some nuttiness but overall somewhat offensive. Flat carbonation and a relatively heavy palate. The beer possesses some potential but is overall mediocre in every category I hate a beer to be mediocre in. phishpond417 (1542), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Aug 3, 2008 Pours a semi clear brown colour with a small thin nutty tan head. Somewhat malty in the initial taste but midpalate evolves into a more satisfying yet average bock representation. nutty, with roasted malts and carmelly toasted taste. Strykzone (1116), Wood River, Illinois, USA Mar 31, 2008 Dark body with lots of red highlights and a nice tan head that quickly fades. Aroma is surprisingly big with lots of malt and dark fruit. Flavor is chock full of sweet malt with toffee. It starts off with some excitement but the beer can’t maintain it. Still, its an enjoyable beer.
