Amber color. Light aroma. Some malt flavor, a bit sweet, soap smell in the glass. Unassertive.

@ ORD. Berghoff Amber? Dull, dark amber. Thin head. Bland aroma leaning towards caramel. The caramel palate is pretty bland, with a hint of that caramelly sweetness. Ok, but kind of macro-ish.

Draft at Berghoff Cafe at O’Hare Airport in Chicago. Labeled Berghoff Famous Amber Ale. Light caramel aroma. Amber color with a bit of off-white head. Medium body with coarsely creamy carbonation. Flavor is caramel with some nice floral? hop. Almost crisp and definitely refreshing.

Bottle 12 oz. Clear dark amber with moderate rocky off-white head that diminished slowly. Good complex aroma of malt, hops and fruit. Medium body. Moderate balanced flavor of malt and a small bitter finish.

12oz bottle acquired in trade. Poured a medium and clear orange color with an averaged sized off white head. Muted aromas of grain and some caramel. Tastes of caramel, grain and citrus. Both the aromas and tastes on the weak side (like the body).

Tap. Pours clear amber with a small, fizzy white head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is cookie, toast and light caramel malt, fruity esters and earthy hops. Flavor is malt dominant with light hops and bitterness, fruity esters and a dry finish. Medium body, light warmth and carbonation.

Rating #300... I thought I would do something special for this one, but I didn’t. Draft at brewery. Clear amber pour with a faint red tint. Light off-white head with some healthy lacing as it went down. Some caramel and red wheat in the aroma, but rather weak. Caramel also found the flavor, along with some woodiness. Light on the palate, with crisp hops present primarily in the middle. Short finish. This wasn’t a bad ale, but I never would have placed it as an APA.

BückDich (5468) - McCall, Idaho, USA - DEC 12, 2006
Bottle: Bronze, reddish, light head and lacing. Sweet melon and fruit rind, hop essence. Koji? Certain buttery notes and a malty nose. The flavor is a bit dusty and musky, even manuery. Finishes a bit too sweet and bland.

Copper colored with little of any head, this had a somewhat stale malty aroma with merely a hint of hopping. Thin in the mouth, it was fairly thin in flavor as well, some burnt caramel with an unappealing bitter finish. Just what does The Berghoff have to take pride in anymore - these blase "famous" brews that they contract out to Huber?
