2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 rondphoto (612) - Lakeside Park, Kentucky, USA - MAR 26, 2012
Dark copper with a persistent head and spotty lacing. The taste is sweet pungent malt that carries through to a very light bitter finish. A little heavy for the style and abv; not bad enough to dismiss, not good enough to recommend.

"Berghoff Rock River Red Ale" Bottle pours copper with a khaki head. Aroma is sweet and somewhat flat with notes of caramel and maybe
a touch of apple. Flavor is heavy sweet with an underlying earthy/herbal bitterness. The alcohol is extremely apparent even considering it’s only 5.6%. Overall body is moderate and the finish is lightly bitter.

@ ORD. Berghoff Amber? Dull, dark amber. Thin head. Bland aroma leaning towards caramel. The caramel palate is pretty bland, with a hint of that caramelly sweetness. Ok, but kind of macro-ish.

1.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 4/20 jmagnus87 (766) - Carbondale, Illinois, USA - AUG 19, 2011
12oz bottle from Woodman’s poured into a shaker. Labeled as Rock River Red Ale. Pours a burnt amber color with almost zero head. Aroma is slightly hoppy...herbal if anything. Not much there in the way of malt. Taste is lighlty bitter and medium sweet. Kinda gross. Almost reminds me of a flat Blue Moon. Definitly not what I would call an APA. Medium bodied with a thick, creamy texture. Lively carbonation and not much to speak of by way of finish. There is a very mild hop bitterness at the very tail end of the finish. Overall, this one is pretty gross. Way too sweet for my palate. Gonna give it to my girlfriend to finish because I honestly couldn’t. I have a feeling they used water from the Rock River and forgot to filter it first...
