Huber was a local brewer that hung in there, God bless ’em, and this has developed a quiet multi-state reputation.
A good, straight lager - no world beater, but plenty good enough (especially at the price). A few of the Berghoffs are too sweet for my taste, but this is a good representative of the companys basic products.
And above all, compared to the American Mass-market swills, it *is* actually real beer! RE-RATE BEGINS HERE: Just tried this again, as it had been almost two years since I’d had it. I stand by every word of my original review: Basic beer, but a ’way above average basic beer.

Full bodied, but it has this funny taste to it, almost like wood alcohol. Like most beers from Huber it’s horrible.

My friend brought this back from Chicago and I thougth it was pleasant. Nothing real special but a nice, simple beer.

Better than a lot of beers. Not a big fan of the style. Decent beer, but wouldn’t buy again.

Maybe not the best out there, but its cheaper most AB products, and its got a lot of taste on AB.

Average in most every respect. However, I have mentioned value for the money with Berghoff, and I will continue to do so. While there are flaws (bubble-gum sweetness, poor balance) I am not going to relegate this beer to the 1-star category where most of the $4.25 per six beers reside.

UPDATED: APR 5, 2005 Aroma and flavor of steamed vegetables. Not bad and reasonably priced. Serve very cold.

This was a really good american lager. I like almost everything from the joseph huber brewing company and this is no exception. A well flavored lager. Great with cooking on the grill.
