My favorite Wisconsin beer and the best Berghoff. I can see I’m spitting in the ocean with the group-think in play on this site, but if you’re looking for pleasant surprise in a hoppy, crisp, drinkable beer, give Berghoff’s pale another try.

Gold colored pale ale, strong hop aroma. The hops hit the back of your mouth and leave a nice after taste. The Berghoff Variety pack is a good buy to get to know their beers.

I usually hate this style but this like Bass is mild and tasty. A little hint of bitter but mostly roasted flavors take center stage. A little carmel. Berghoff’s are so underrated.

Good clean beer. Nice finish. Balanced well.

Probably my least favorite of the berghoff beers, but it was still good compared to most others. An interesting taste.

UPDATED: NOV 3, 2006 ANOTHER RERATE, 11/06: I must have been a good boy because my wife brought me a Berghoff sampler case last time she went grocery shopping. This time, the pale ale is nice & fresh. I think they’ve upped the hops because I’m getting a real wallop of citrus and pine all the way through. There also seems to be a bit more malt in the background than I remember. Overall, a very yummy pale ale--and a great buy.
RERATE: I don’t know if my tastes have changed or if the batch of this beer I just bought is a little funky. Whatever the case, I’m detecting a metallic taste in the background that I hadn’t noticed before. Also, I’m getting a little too much carbonation. Still not a bad beer but not as good as I remembered it from my original rating.
ORIGINAL WRITE-UP:
I tried this beer because of its relatively inexpensive price and my positive impression of Berghoff beers in general. I wasn’t disappointed at all; in fact, I think this pale ale is a marvelous buy. It’s as tasty as my favorite ’Tyranena Stone Tepee Ale’ and it costs somewhat less. This will probably become a ’regular buy’ for me.

Another fine brew from the folks at Berghoff. Smooth, nice finish, wasn't expecting a lot because these were so cheap but was pleasantly suprised. Similar to Leinenkugels in some ways.

UPDATED: JUN 24, 2004 Copper colored with a modest head, light lacing and very little carbonation. Malty spicy aroma with a faint acidity. Medium bodied with a dryish nutty maltiness and a good hoppy bitterness-well balanced, not particularly citrusy, pretty good.
