COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Bavaria, wheat beers were once the exclusive province of royalty, and it’s easy to see why. With their reliance on costly wheat, a refined aroma and a magical combination of complexity and easy drinkability, wheat beers tickle just about everyone’s fancy. They deserve wider appreciation. Straight-Up Hefe-Weizen is brewed with 60 percent malted wheat and 40 percent pilsner and other malts. It is an unfiltered beer with a cloudy appearance due to yeast and proteins that add a rich creamy mouth feel. A classic Bavarian wheat beer yeast is used, adding subtle layers of banana, bubblegum and spicy clove, the signature trio for the style. The finish is creamy, dry and just a touch tangy.

355ml bottle. Jsut a filthy watery mess of a hefeweizen, metal, disgusting aftertaste.

Hazy light golden under a thin light head. Nose is very yeasty and wheaty. Flavor is like a pale lager with tons of wheat.

bottle. Golden with small head. Perfectly clear, and obviously filtered. That’s a "straight-up" hefeweizen? Ok. Sweet, light banana, and mild spice. Not bad, but I suspect it would be better if it hadn’t been filtered. It’s strange to read that other people are reporting a hazy beer. Mine was definitely filtered.

Pour from a 12oz bottle. Light tawny yellow brew, cloudy with a nice dense head. Aroma of light orange, clove, banana and gumball. Taste follows the aroma with a decent lingering finish. A very enjoyable hefe.

Bottle to half-pint glass (shared with the Mrs.). Looks decent; had to pour out the last 20% though because of way too much yeast and sediment that I didn’t feel like dealing with come tomorrow morning. Smells of yeast and clove. Tastes like it smells, only with more balance, and maybe a bit of banana too. Average on the palate. Not bad.

Aroma is bananas, heavy bubble gum notes and mild sweetness. The flavor is bananas, fruit/cherries/berries, wheat and a tart finish.

Draft at the Berghoff Bar. Quite different from their previous hefeweizen. Not too cloudy (and served here WITHOUT a wedge). Amber to brown, somewhat clearer than the usual unfiltered wheat. Smell cover mostly a slightly spicy wheat nose and definite German hops. Taste brings out the wheat malt, and only further in do we get a hint of banana and clove esters. Focus is on the noble hops, and they are fully represented. Darn good wheat beer all around, with plenty of Old World charm.

Poured this a tad cold with a smallish, off-white, foamy head that quickly settled and some lace. Color is a hazy amber. Aroma is traditional with the fruit and yeast, bit of spice; but, yeast dominates. Flavor’s like nose although it is subdued. Some tang stands out, then bitter ties with fruit. Body/carbonation are average. Finish is like flavor, with the tang again standing out and lasting the longest. No off qualities. Drinkable, but is nothing special.

Bottled. Poured hazy paler golden with a short toasted beige head. The aroma picked up a bunch of bananas and bubblegum with some clove accents.. heavy-handed with that stuff, but not much else came through. The flavor found drier wheat and overripe bananas at the core, with cloves and other white spices around.. spicy and a little sharp on the fairly long finish. Light-medium bodied with filling carbonation on the palate.. this didn’t flow all that well.
