COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Bavaria, wheat beers were once the exclusive province of royalty, and it’s easy to see why. With their reliance on costly wheat, a refined aroma and a magical combination of complexity and easy drinkability, wheat beers tickle just about everyone’s fancy. They deserve wider appreciation. Straight-Up Hefe-Weizen is brewed with 60 percent malted wheat and 40 percent pilsner and other malts. It is an unfiltered beer with a cloudy appearance due to yeast and proteins that add a rich creamy mouth feel. A classic Bavarian wheat beer yeast is used, adding subtle layers of banana, bubblegum and spicy clove, the signature trio for the style. The finish is creamy, dry and just a touch tangy.

This is really clear and thus I’d call it a krystalweizen, not that that really matters. It’s yellow in color w/ a small head. There’s a bit of banana and clove in the nose plus a touch of earth and grass. This is a bit sweet and heavy w/ some earthy bitterness in the finish to balance. It is a little on the thick side but not really creamy and it’s highly carbonated. I wouldn’t put this along w/ the best of its style but its pretty solid. If they could improve the texture and get rid of some of the grassy tones, it’d be pretty damn good.

Tallahassee, Fl. - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - Betton - 12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy medium golden with a light soft snow white head. Aroma of cloves and banana. Flavor is a good representation of the style with nice clove and banana accents, some coriander notes and a touch of banana. Nice crisp refreshing mouthfeel. Pretty decent.

Foggy butterscotch gold with a white head. Standard 12 oz longneck twistoff. Yeasty aroma with some banana esters. Slightly tangy, generally doughy, low bittering, light spice. Body edges over to the light side. Fair. ABC Liquors, Betton.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate sweet banana and a touch of clove. It pours a mostly transparent golden-orange with just a touch of haze. It has a one finger white head that quickly fades to a thin ring around the edges of the glass. It doesn’t take long before it looks like it’s flat. The flavor starts with faint citrus. There are some some funky caramelized bananas in the middle. The finish a touch of lemon and clove. It’s light bodied with minimal carbonation. Overall, this is a terrible Hefeweizen. It should probably be labeled a Wheat Ale...and it would be bad one of those as well.

On tap, poured into a shaker. Aromas of banana and bubblegum come through clearly with a light clove note. It’s a rather sugary smell, even for a Hefeweizen. It pours a murky straw yellow, with white frothy head that reduces quickly to retain only an uneven, medium ring, with a runny, micro lace, and only a light amount sticks. The taste is a medium sweet and medium light bitter. It’s thin, but creamy, with a fuzzy, medium light body contains flavors of bubblegum, grain, and banana cream pie. It has a crisp, lemon finish with a touch of astringency in the aftertaste with a light clove, lemon, and bubblegum taste lingering. A nice, refreshing beer.

On tap at Blind Robin. Very light bodied for a hefe. Mealy grainy texture and fair amount of raw grain taste. Underspiced for the style. Weird tasting and not very good.

Years back when I worked in the Loop, I used to enjoy going to The Berghoff, gobbling up their sauer bratten, potato pancakes, spaetzel, and creamed spinach while swigging down their beers, which they originally brewed themselves.
Sigh.
This brew has a hazy yellow body with a tall combo of a creamy/rocky head. It’s got an aroma of unripe bananas, bread dough, and a hint of clove. The flavor is more mature bananas, dough, and maybe some zest. It’s simple, but pretty refreshing

A great American version of a true hefe. On tap at Gino’s while watching brazil chile. Heavy ripe bananas and a bit of tart in the nose. Beautiful pale hazy yellow. Palate is rich thick and chewy with bananas and clove underneath.

[Bottle] Pours a cloudy straw color with a decent cap of foamy white head. Aromas of bubblegum, banana, clove and sweet grains. Flavor notes include wheat malts, vanilla, bubblegum, banana, clove and light nutmeg. Average to above average body for the style. Prickly carbonation. Overall a pretty good attempt, but the flavors didn’t come together as well as some of the others I have had. Also, seemed to be missing some of the creamy texture that I enjoy.
