I had this beer out of a bottle. It has a nice amber color with malty, hop smell. The head is light. The taste is full. Overall excellent beer. It would be better on tap.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 OldGrowth (1859) - North Carolina, USA - AUG 31, 2003
Bottle:Huh, nice nose fruity, toasty, bubble gum sweet(I'm thinking Bazooka Joe) Kinda of a signature for the brewer. Nice amber/copper color. Malty carmel flavor with a creamy smooth lite roast malt and a little bitter finish. Very nice for Pale ale. A change of pace, kind of the way the Lost Sailor IPA, in a field that get kinda copycat.

Very nice effort. I had it on draft with a steak dinner, and it held up extremely well. Nice amber pour. Great malty front. Nice balance. I guess the medium body description does apply here.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 vwsteggie (684) - Paxton, Massachusetts, USA - APR 9, 2003
Has a cloudy red/amber color with moderate carbonation and a floral/hop smell. Taste is slightly malted sweet and finishes with a refreshing hop bitterness. Overall it tastes somewhat like the IPA, but much better. I enjoyed this beer quite a bit.

Deep amber color with a thin head and good lace. Slightly sweet hoppy aroma and flavor with a slight citrusy fuitiness. Slightly dry and medium bodied.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 VENOM (941) - Connecticut, USA - NOV 13, 2002
Barely amber with a compact and creamy beige head. Sprinkles of carbonation. Fresh aroma of doughy malts and pine resin hops and a glimmer of grapefruit rinds. Immediately full and balanced with a thick, doughy, lightly sweet malt base countered by a moderately bitter pine and citric rind hop balance. Bitter aftertaste atop a gently sweet malt backbone. Medium body. Turns soft and creamy with the yeast pour. Remains nicely balanced with a thick malt body and bitter yet unobtrusive hop impact. Finishes smooth, hoppy and doughy with a lingering citric/cookie dough meld and touch of fruity yeast. A great session brew.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - OCT 20, 2002
Very very dark for an APA, smallish head that leaves some lacing and a trace amount of cream that lasts. Beautiful caramel apple/apricot aroma; flavor is very malty, with a little smokiness on the end, very fruity, decent body, extremely drinkable. Not a standout, but a quality brew for under $3 a bomber, for sure.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 ToadMan (558) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - MAY 13, 2002
A little fruitier than I tend to like an ale to be, but it had a nice smooth flavor and I was drinking for free, so I realy enjoyed this beer.

Huge fruity palette, that distracts from the overall ale. While hopped nicely the malt leaves a lot to be desired. Overall it is fairly weak despite its bold appearance.
