the simple goodness of a pale ale. A full growler enjoyed. Dark amber color. Aroma is very light flower hope with some buttery sweet malt behind it. Toast with caramel taste and mild bitterness. Really the kind of beer they would love in Deerfield and the Berkshires.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 VALIS (210) - Nashua, New Hampshire, USA - FEB 1, 2013
My bottle is 3 months past the best by date so I assume this is skewing the beer’s qualities a little. Strongest notes of caramel and sweet bread. Decent amount of carbonation and thin mouthfeel. A good beer that doesn’t jump out in any way.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Spelt (231) - East Kingston, New Hampshire, USA - JUL 21, 2012
Aroma of nail polish and carmel malts. Clear ruby-brown beer with thick tan head. Chemical sweetness up front. Some toffee and molasses notes. Very little appreciable bitterness. Seems out of balance and maybe fermented too hot. I’ve liked some of the other BBC beers but this one just really isn’t enjoyable.

A - Dark amber body with a red tint. Off-white soapy head. Really solid lacing and retention.
S - Sweet caramel malts and english style hops. A bit piney and grassy.
T - A bit subdued. Caramel and bready malts with a touch of clean grass. Simple and tasty. Medium body with low carbonation.
O - A simple and clean APA. Hops are light but it has a great bready malt backbone.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 PhatB420 (468) - Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 18, 2012
22oz bomber into a pint. Color is more like a brown than a typical pale ale, but this is traditional so I guess thats different. Taste has a mainly malty backbone, sweet caramel, roasted ceader, piney sap. Goes down sweet, thick on the malt, slow, and tangy. Color omits a brown, some plum, some chocolate, and some cheeried brown wood. A raisin fig combo also hangs out in the taste. Im just not sold on the name labled on the bottle. An american strong, though not that strong, would be better. I like bbc.
