ATLBeerDog (279), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 3, 2008 Pours black with a quickly receding tan head. Smells of strong bourbon and roasted malt. Very light lacing. Heavy bourbon tastes that is lightly carbonated, with a malty bitterness aftertaste.
This is a sipper, what a lovely sipper it is! I would love to see this one commercially available.
cakanator (40), Northampton, Massachusetts, USA Sep 15, 2008 22 oz bomber. Thank God I have two of these. I need to get more of the old batch which sat 8 months in Beam Barrels. Poured dark brown and smelled like a fine bourbon with oak and sweet aromas. Full bodied with plenty but not over done bourbon flavors oak vanilla caramel... just about everything. One of the first Bourbon barrels I had. Amazing. Rciesla (1580), Brick City, New Jersey, USA May 26, 2008 Draft. Pours a dark brown nectar with a thin head. Aroma is chocolate, bourbon, oak, caramel, and sweet candy. Taste is that but the mouth feel was so thin and the etoh didn’t come through as much as i’d like. kp (6300), Woodstock, Georgia, USA May 11, 2008 Date: 05/03/2008
ChainGangGuy (1810), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA May 4, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, dark brown body with a smallish, wispy, beige head.
Smell: Dark malt aroma full of notes smelling of homemade fudge, chopped walnut meats, and dark caramel. And it’s plenty bourbony, sure, with the usual accompanying notes of wood, brown sugar, and vanilla.
Taste: Rich dark maltiness makes up the bulk of the flavor with more of the chocolatey, nutty notes from the nose. Quite sweet. Brief hint of fruit. The warming qualities of the brew hit you right away, though the actual bourbon flavor, for me, was surprisingly light and scattered amidst the heavy malts. Though, the warming finish does pick up a good amount of wood flavor.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Mild, gentle carbonation.
Drinkability: A very fine bourbon-bumped RIS! None of its qualities are so overbearing as to slow you down from finishing this one off. shp555 (1377), lilburn, Georgia, USA May 3, 2008 Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma is bourbon, chocolate, alcohol, oak, vanilla, and some caramel. Flavor is malty, caramel, oak, vanilla, bourbon, and a sweet bourbon alcohol finish.
