Plenty smooth and not very smoky for a porter. Very fine aroma of coffee, woodsmoke, and a dash of floral hops. Drayman’s is medium-bodied and malty, with some chocolate notes, definitely not one of those grab-you-by-the-lapels kind of porters. An enjoyable brew, like most of BBC’s releases.

Poured from a large bottle into a trumpet glass to drink. The beer had a full wet black body with a deep brown hue and an average-sized foamy dark tan head that had shorter retention and light cling with average lacing. Its aroma had a heavy roasted malt presence with toffee and chocolate-coffee blend, along with some oak, and touches of grainy and floral hops. It had a rich, roasty malt taste with light sweetness and a mild bitterness, featuring tones of chocolate and coffee, and some lighter grainy, earthy, and oak tones. The beer had a filling mouthfeel which was fairly thick, and a slightly creamy and dry body with lower carbonation and life.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a dark brown color with reddish highlights and a medium sized beige head. The aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, herbal hops with tart fruits at the edges. The flavor is roasted malts, chocolate, herbal and earthy hops with light tart fruit notes. I wonder how old this was since the tart fruits seemed out of place.

Got this at the Bennington Co-Op. Pours dark with minimal head. Really drinkable! Malty and earthy. Straight forward porter that actually tastes like a porter and not a light stout. Drink this!

Bomber from Whole Foods Market, Darien, CT. Pours a clear dark reddish brown color with a large frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, floral hops and a bit of chocolate. The taste is chocolate, green apple, roasted malts, nutty notes and mild hops. Medium bodied, quite drinkable.

September 30, 2011 with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc and mabel. My bomber. Clear opaque reddish/brown with a smallish tan creamy/frothy head. Fruity and herbal aroma, some alcohol, a bit sour actually - only medium roast, although it’s nice and biscuity. Taste is mild, roast, less alcohol and sourness - a little thin. Weak carbonation and pretty forgettable.

On Cask at Cask Republic in New Haven

Pours very dark, almost black with a very loose & small but very well retained head that leaves some lacing on the glass.

The aroma is roasty with some berries & earthiness. The beer isn’t overly coffee-esque but the roastiness certainly harkens to that tune.

The flavor is roasty in a coffee kind of way with a good level of bitterness all around, some dark chocolate and mild leafy hops. Not as fruit forward in flavor as it is in aroma, but that’s fine. This is a very straightforward and very delicious example of this style.
Hot Damn that is some fine porter.

Poured from bottle Deep Brown color with ruby highlights. Solid two finger tan head with plenty of lacing. Aroma was sweet and compelx. Plenty of roasted and chocolatey notes, as well as a linger nose of hops. The hops didn’t give off a very unique nose but did a nice job of balancing out the malts. Flavor was full of chocolate with enough bitterness from the hops to not have it feel over whelming. Fun to drink, but felt a little chewy going down. Sweetness is long lasting in the aftertaste and slowly dies down leaving a slight bitter taste in the end. A nice complex porter that balance sweet and bitter very well.
