It pours murky brown with a decent tan head. The aroma is a light barleywine, raisin malty resin notes, but smooth in the nose. The flavor of light malts and sweet notes, figs and raisins. Poured 3 years old, smooth and light, medium in body.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 VTHopHead (1387) - Barre, Vermont, USA - MAR 1, 2009
Bomber - Poured a nice clear reddish brown in color with a small off-white head. Some lacing on the glass. Aroma is both hoppy and sweet with some roasted malts filtered in. Flavor is pretty hoppy and bitter to start, but the malt understructure mellows it all out in the end. Alcohol is pretty well hidden, but definitely present. Finishes with a lengthy hop bitterness. Typical of a hoppy barleywine... nothing all that special, but enjoyable.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 apoptosis (1316) - Long Island, New York, USA - MAR 15, 2007
Well, I wouldn’t have called this a barley-wine - maybe instead an American Strong Ale. The hops blend very well with the sweetness, which is of cane sugar and honey. The hops are also very pleasantly bitter. It looks great too, a small soapy head over a mahogany body. Some banana esters in the finish, but its not the most prominent character. The aroma is strong of malts, with some chalkiness.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 JCW (1272) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 27, 2004
This barley is different, like or hate it. Hazy gold color, bead of pearl around the rim of the glass. Aroma is sweet with American hops(cascade/continenial?). Hops are light sweetness is bright, and I don't think I like this one goodnight.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 mcox90 (1100) - Wilton, New Hampshire, USA - DEC 2, 2007
22 oz. bomber, 2007 vintage, Pours a deep red, almost burgundy color with a 1/2" off white head. Good lacing that stayed until the end. Upon pouring, the aromas released are of dark fruits and fresh baked holiday bread. Mouthfeel is moderate to thick. There’s a chewyness to this brew. Flavors were of dates, figs, plums and raisins. There is a warming alcohol burn. Think chocolate covered cherries with liquor. Just the right amount of hops for balance. Dry and slightly bitter finish.
3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 williamherbert (1065) - Syracuse, New York, USA - AUG 26, 2009
The appearance is cloudy deep red. Some debris floating. Head disappears quickly. Cherry red.
The smell isn’t very strong, so there’s not much to say about it except some grainy barley malt.
The taste is gritty, almost musty malt, but not skunky. It’s funky and appropriate. A really nice hop accent. Slight sourness and leather. Raisin and sweet cherry comes out too. Some sweet honey too.
It’s thick and chewy, but smooth, buttery and oily too. It’s a thick and rich beer. A smooth barleywine.
