3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Dickinsonbeer (5076) - Hoboken, USA - MAY 19, 2011
Bomber. Pours hazy honey gold with a thin white head and some streaky lace. Aroma is honey, toasted malts, sharp burnt sweetness, slight earth, must, and herbs along with some medium dms- cabbage as it warms. Flavor is slight overly sweet pale malts, and sugar, cotton candy, smarties candies, toasted malts, slight sugary sweet toffee, toasted bread, fairly good body, and a medium dry finish- slight acetaldehyde like apple finish as well with some fruitiness. Drinkable and ok overall, but not a great maibock for sure.

Draft from Coalhouse Pizza, Stamford, CT. This beer has a sweet profile with bready notes and flavor from the malts. Medium bodied but very drinkable.

Poured from bottle.
Poured a pleasant deep orange with a nice 2-finger off-white head. Minimal lacing. Aroma was a little disappointing. Very malty and grainy. Taste is malty with a strong alcohol burn. I was very surprised by the overwhelming taste of alcohol for the style.
Beer was nicely carbonated and felt good going down. Malty after taste was long-lasting with a slight hint of bitterness at the tale end.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 davey101 (215) - Connecticut, USA - MAR 30, 2012
On tap at a local restaurant, 23 oz pour into a tall pilsner glass for a reasonable $6.
A - Dark amber body. Small white head forms but disappears all together after a bit. Swirling doesn’t yield much action.
S - Bready caramel malts, light spices, honey, and a touch of herbal grassiness. Alcohol is surprisingly present.
T - Very similar to the nose. Bready malts, caramel, toffee, floral hops and a lingering honey sweetness. The alcohol makes it self present in the finish. Medium and lightly creamy mouth feel.
O - Not BBC’s best effort. It has some decent flavors and I really enjoy the honey sweetness, but I found the alcohol to be a bit overwhelming for a spring seasonal.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 stangger (516) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 22, 2011
Cloudy orange. Bottle on the lake in nh. Aroma largely toasted malt, yeast, earthy, spices, light fruits. Taste is a nice balance of sweetness vs the toastiness of the malt with a spicy sing. Some bitterness and alcohol burn at the end. It’s interesting but not something I would go back for.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 puboflyons (1187) - Allenstown, New Hampshire, USA - JUN 19, 2011
Expiration date of 8/30/11. It pours a hazy, orange tone with a quarter inch or so or rising, fizzy head that diminishes to a ring. The aroma is of sweet malts, overripe fruits, cereals, and a bit of grainy alcohol. The body is about medium but also on the creamy side. I’m not sure if the tart bite at the end is due to a hoppy addition or something akin to grain alcohol. In any event it leaves a noticeable aftertaste.

22 oz. bottle. used a pint glass. Light almost transparent copper color. Large white head that fizzled down after about 1 minute. Nose of honey and bread. Taste is Rich caramel malt with a decent hops notes and a touch of honey. Very nice balance of malt sweetness and hops. Its a great spring brew. I finished the bomber in about 11 minutes, very easy to drink. I’m going to buy more of this.

Welcome to the season of Spring. They have a saying in these New England parts; March is in like lion and out like a lamb. Well, besides the fact that this beer is a ’may’ bock, and not a ’march’ bock, the saying still goes, but in reverse! This beer is in like a lamb; smooth, flavorful with balanced hop to malt characteristics, easy to drink. It is out like a lion in the Serengeti plains, with it’s 6.5 % ABV. If you want to make some spring friends serve a few of these 22’s with some grilled asparagus and a pork tenderloin. Prost!
