Purchased from Leary’s for $4.34 last night. I haven’t had a Black & Tan in a while. Glad I’m going to...RIGHT NOW!!!! Bottle, as opposed to can or a fuckin’ growler. I like bottles. Pours blood-red with a sudsy off-white head. You know something, I was getting annoyed with all the rings lately. Oh, yeah. Aromas of hop pellets, ginger ale, leather, minerals and peppercorns. Taste the same. Yeast and moldy clementines by swallow. As many have said, it’s easy-drinking, but not something I’d buy again. Kinda odd to say the least.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pretty tasty, exactly what I expected for a black and tan. Nut brown color with nice thick head. Chocolate notes and pale malts play off each other with a hop presence.

Bomber. Pour is very dark brown with a light tan head, laces well. Smell is brown sugar, with light coffee notes. Taste is sweet with caramel and a touch of coffee and chocolate, faint note if hops. Very smooth and drinkable, doesn't blow me away, but nothing off with it either.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle split at Dadsgving, thanks, 24/11/13.
Hazed dark amber with a moderate light beige head.
Nose is dark malts, toffee, brown bread, light cocoa.
Taste comprises toffee, grain, very light roast, fruit cake.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry closure.
Ok - kind of a porter light/brown ale hybrid. Nothing I’d rush back to mind.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Aroma of peaty malts and dark fruit. Clear brownish color, some tan lacing left over. Sweet roasty taste with some citrus peel counterweight, as if someone made a black and tan with a wit. Smooth but needs more body weight. I have decided that black and tan’s should be mixed fresh and not bottled.

I think I prefer this to the Drayman’s Porter on its own, and I haven’t tried the Berkshire Ale yet. Malty and smooth, like most BBC releases. Fine aroma of floral hops, malt, and a bit of fresh grass and barnyard. The taste is equally enjoyable - some chocolate malt and pale ale hops that blend together very nicely. 10% of the sales price supports a local food bank - another plus in my book.
