COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A full bodied dark ale which is a blend of our Berkshire Ale and Drayman's Porter. It combines the caramel malt flavor of the pale ale with the chocolate roasted taste of the porter. Shabadoo is a complete and delicious ale.

Pours a dark copper brown with one finger of foamy tan head. Nose is what one would expect, a bastardized blend of a sub-par dark beer with a sub-par hoppy beer. Peanut hulls and papery dark malt with some diacetyl. Flavor is meh, bitter grain and hops with some chocolate and coffee and a mild peanut shell flavor. Not sure why you would actually bottle a beer as a black and tan...

I think I prefer this to the Drayman’s Porter on its own, and I haven’t tried the Berkshire Ale yet. Malty and smooth, like most BBC releases. Fine aroma of floral hops, malt, and a bit of fresh grass and barnyard. The taste is equally enjoyable - some chocolate malt and pale ale hops that blend together very nicely. 10% of the sales price supports a local food bank - another plus in my book.

Purchased from Leary’s for $4.34 last night. I haven’t had a Black & Tan in a while. Glad I’m going to...RIGHT NOW!!!! Bottle, as opposed to can or a fuckin’ growler. I like bottles. Pours blood-red with a sudsy off-white head. You know something, I was getting annoyed with all the rings lately. Oh, yeah. Aromas of hop pellets, ginger ale, leather, minerals and peppercorns. Taste the same. Yeast and moldy clementines by swallow. As many have said, it’s easy-drinking, but not something I’d buy again. Kinda odd to say the least.

Courtesy of Barth. Reddish brown pour with a frothy off white head. Caramel, chocolate, cereal grain, and earthy loam lead to molasses and coffee grounds. Medium body- a bit light for the style with low carbonation and a roasty sweet finish.

Bomber from Whole Foods Market Darien. Pours a hazy brown color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of brown malts, tea-like notes, floral notes. The taste is chocolate and tart fruits. Medium bodied.

I’m splitting a bottle of this tonight with hobbie100. Thanks Richard! A: Very dark brown color with a thick, creamy, off-white head that leaves a thick coating of lacing all over the glass. Excellent appearance. S: Faint aromas of malt, chocolate. Smells of a lager more as it warms. Hard to detect much. T: This is easily the best of the Berkshire beers I’ve had so far. The flavors are gentle, but I get hints of milk chocolate and cream. The taste isn’t huge, but it’s great in its simplicity. The blend is done quite well, creating a pleasant and intriguing beer, in spite of the overall lack of complexity. M: Creamy and smooth with a good carbonation level. A little bit of a tangy zip in the finish. D: Very drinkable. Not terribly exciting, but I would definitely drink this again.

On draft at flatbread pizza. This one doesn’t really work for me. The idea is a good one, but for a black and tan to come together properly, the black needs to be smooth, and the tan needs to be a little hoppy. The roasty meets sweet doesn’t combine well and leaves this short.

on tap in my basement for my b-day. Dark hue on the pour, decent off white head, not completely dark however a bit brown hue showing through. Super malty nose, light dusted cocoa. Palate is very smooth, malty forwardness, with minor bitterness by the finish. Flavors are light and fluffy, really nice black and tan.

Bottle at Sander’s place, NYC. Pours brown with a creamy, beige head. Caramel, leaves, burnt toast, cocoa in the nose. Flavor is nice and slightly restrained. Medium sweet with a nice, mild roastiness, with chalky cocoa, some dark fruits, toast, some dark sugar. Medium bodied with incredibly creamy, massaging carbonation. Feels good, friends. Nice finish, some mild sticky bitterness, light roasted malts with cocoa, dark sugar, light bread. A very nice beer overall. Excellent balance.
