MayorQuimby (100), Santa Barbara, California, USA Sep 20, 2005 For rating #100, I pulled out an old favorite from my college days while visiting my brother back on campus. Bottle. Pours a light pale golden color, fluffy white head, good lacing. Body is completely transparent, some light bubbles. Nose is fruity and malty, strength on the light side. Gently sweet in the mouth, a slight bitterness from the hops in the finish, but good balance with some apricoty overtones. Mouthfeel is crisp, light, nicely carbonated. My buddies and I used to drink this by the pitcher at our local college pub, and I always had a bomber in the fridge back home. It’s one of the beers that really got me into drinking great beer, so a good deal of nostalgia in this one (and a fitting beer to celebrate joining the 100 club). Here’s to the next step!
dchmela (907), Orlando, Florida, USA Dec 10, 2008 Pours a hazy dark yellow with a thin white head. Slightly skunky malt aroma with hints of hops. Slightly fruity crisp malt taste and slight bittering hops. Only found this ok, no tas refreshing as I had hoped. elihapa (461), Hawaii, USA Oct 31, 2008 Bottle. Appearance is light yellow, with a dissipating head. Aroma is nondescript, perhaps a bit of grass. Flavor is bread, sugar, grass, and light fruit. Palate remains crisp, but finishes sticky. To be honest, this beer was kind of a mess to me. Crisp, but bready. Sticky, yet with Pilsner-esque grass notes. Just didn’t come together. porterhouse (1017), Alna, Maine, USA Oct 11, 2008 (22 oz. bottle from Marcorelle’s) Pours hazy gold/yellow. Interesting that it’s not amber at all. Three rocky fingers of white head. Aroma is sort of honeyish with kind of a hayish organic quality that’s hard to pinpoint. Some piney, sweaty hops were sniffed as well. Mouthfeel is fairly smooth but a bit pebbly. Not really much texture. Patchy, webby lacing. Flavor of weak sweet malt and a touch of a bitter bite on back end. Bland. No caramel, no fruitiness. Kind of a weak offering from Berkshire. thornecb (1291), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Sep 25, 2008 Pours a slightly hazed gold into a shaker. Fluffy white whipped cream head. Biscuit and caramel aromas. Thin to medium and malty from front to back. No hop presence. fata2683 (270), APO, New York, USA Sep 15, 2008 I had this on tap at a pizzeria in the Springfield area visiting family. We enjoyed pitchers of this all night and it paired well with the pizza. Nice and cold, light and crisp. Moderate carbonation and a decent bittering finish.
