robertjm (250), El Cerrito, California, USA Dec 8, 2006 A very unique wheat beer for sure. Sourness to it, rather than the traditional clean wheat flavor you’d expect from something labeled weisse. Pretty crystal clear unless you get the yeast transfered in the glass. And even still then very little cloudyness. Head is white and frothy, but doesn’t last. Sourness in the scent. Traditionally is drunk with a bit of fruit flavored syrup, which would help to cut the sourness in the straight beer.
KimJohansen (5208), Copenhagen V, Denmark Dec 30, 2008 Clear golden with a medium white head. Aroma was sourish with mild barnyard and citric notes. Sour flavour with grapefruit, wheat and hay. Finished sour. SkyCop32 (286), Morlautern, Germany Dec 21, 2008 Shared this with Oldrtybastrd. This pours sour, aroma of vinegar and tastes sour. All in all it is sour followed by sour and finally a sour after taste. Quack-Duck (2202), Bodensee, Germany Dec 16, 2008 bottle. Hazy yellow colour, mid-sized fluffy and quickly disappearing head. Sour nose. Wheaty and sour, pleasantly fruity (llemon, grapefruit). A lovely and very characteristic brew - quite excentric. Pale hazy yellow, brief head. Sweet light malty aroma, some light sweet fruits too - peach. Sharp sour taste, makes me think of blackcurrant. Some tingly hops, and sharp carbonation. Finish is loads of light malt and wheat. Very refreshing, but not as sour as some other berliner weisses that I have had. Still very crisp though. stryk (24), Farsta, Sweden Dec 14, 2008 from bottle.. bought from Trinkgut in Krefeld.
My german beer safari heatens up even more.
Smells and tastes apple juice, wheat and grape. Medium to heavy Sour, light sweet and very fizzy. Acidic.I always wanted to try this one. Weird beer but very drinkable and refreshing. Napoleon is said to have called this beer type for the champagne of the prussians. I hope i have time to try the ones with raspberry and woodruff. Remember that this one only weights in at 3.5%.
Cheers
