Dark lager with a fine yeast culture is an unpasteurized beer brewed from four types of malt, with a distinctive full taste and a fine bitterness. Its special flavour makes it unique on the Czech beer market. From Bernard´s family brewery portfolio this beer is the most recognized in Czech and foreign degustation competitions.

Dark clear brown body, creamy head quickly diminishes. Caramel roasted malt, lightly bitter. Coffee aroma with hints of chocolate. Some notes of fruits and licorice. Dry coffee aftertaste. Medium-low carbonated.

On tap at the Rutland and Derby, Leicester. Very pleasant Dunkel, with nice dark brown colour and frothy white head. Smells like cocoa and metal. Flavour is smooth, yet tasty lager mixed with choc and roast. Light, yet full of taste. Smooth in the mouth. A lovely draft choice.

0.5 l fliptop. Pours a dark brown/black/ruby colour and a quickly dropping pale brown head. Crisp nose of coffee and some yeast, the taste’s sweet, the flavour’s vanilla/toffee-liked. Roasty/caramell, yeasty aroma and a coffeebitterand dry finish. The beers’ body’s medium, the texture’s kinda slick. A good dunkel with a nice aroma.

Bottled. Thx Gustaf Dark brown with a brief, beige head. Light toffee-ish roasted aroma. Some Unfortunate vegetable-notes in both aroma and flavour. Some sweet, dried fruits.

A great looking beer; brilliant head and colour. Aroma and flavour are burnt almost chocolateish.

500ml flip-top bottle purchased from bestillingsutvalget, Systembolaget. Gives a good shot followed by smoke when opened. Rocky, fawn coloured head over a rosewood body. Aroma of roasted, mid-sweet malts, maybe a tint of brittle caramel. Medium mouth filling with roasted malts and liquorice acidity. Rounded palate. Likeable (Tromsř, 09.01.2010).

UPDATED: APR 25, 2010 Dark brown color, minimal head; mild aroma of powdered sugar, caramel and roasted malt; decent, not perfectly smooth mouthfeel, thin to medium body; flavor is (for a dark czech, anyway) only a little sweet, caramel and even surprisingly dry with roasted malt and mild bitterness in the end.

Dark (black) larger, thin head, good malty aroma, smoky malty taste, would buy again.
