Black with a reddish tint and a thick cream head; fruity, malty, caramel aroma; spritz feel in the mouth with lots of burnt caramel flavour, some nuts and fruits as well, but the burnt sugar dominates; there is some coffee and chocolate on the finish, but again this is overcome by burnt sugar leaving a dry ending. This is certainly an assertive beer. EFC1878 (292), Manchester, Greater Manchester, England

Surprising initial smoothness for the style which gives way to a nice dryness in the finish with hints of chocolate and a coffee bitterness. PorterPounder (3137), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Very dark ruby red pour with a quickly fading dark khaki colored head. Slightly sweet aroma with hints of syrup and caramel. Flavor is similarly sweet with some nuttiness, caramel and a bit of molasses and licorice to round it out. Mouthfeel is thick enough. Best of the three Bernards I purchased.
